I’ll tell my husband about the show. His father was a wwII P51 (I think, the number may be off) pilot who was shot down over Germany and spent over a year as a POW.
Just started watching a really good one on Netflix. Apparently it’s based on a book (that I haven’t read). I’m only halfway through but it’s excellent so far.
The premise is that the show follows the same 2 characters for the same day for 20 years, their personal growing into adulthood and the way fate connects their paths. It starts on the day they meet at graduation in 1988, before both leave university in Edinburgh. It’s not just about love and friendship, it’s also about how those concepts evolve as we grow older, as we ourselves change along with our perception of the world and others. The acting is wonderful and Leo Woodall is gorgeous to look at .
Yes, that’s the one we were talking about upthread. Really good.
I have read the book and seen the movie. I’m tempted to go down the rabbit hole of watching the Netflix series based on several good recommendations here, but I know it will be what my D calls “emotional cutting.”
I tend to like anything you like Others here and on my FB have also recommended it. Maybe we will start it tonight.
For scenery and light comedy/drama… we liked Emily in Paris (Netflix). I just read they are filming a Season 4 - hope it’s true.
I just binged that as well (loved it)! It took me at least five episodes before I remembered where I knew Leo Woodall from (White Lotus).
Resident Alien is back! Fish out of water comedy/sci fi (syfy)
My family loves Resident Alien. It is a family show for us. Alan Tudyk steals the show on every episode.
Drive to Survive season 6 drops this coming Friday. If you’ve never watched it you have 50 episodes to binge this week.
My dad was a fighter bomber pilot in WWII out of Duxford, England (will get there one day) - not the same as a bomber pilot but he flew from March 44 through Sept 44 and 2 missions on D-Day - one of which has video from his guns on his wings strafing a train. I have all his mission records and they are fascinating to read. For WWII 8th AF children there are fighter and bomber groups online - I connected with my dad’s crew chief who told me all about him and said he even is the guy who name the plan (because it was his plane, dad just borrowed it for missions). Search around online and you may connect with other children of flyers who may have additional photos of your relatives.
Oh, DH will be thrilled. He got into it so much that he went to a Formula 1 race when we were in Austin last year. Thankfully, my BIL went with him since I had no interest in being in the hot sun all day!
Another one who just started binging One Day on Netflix and enjoying it - made it through three episodes last night.
We have friends in Austin so that race is on my bucket list. My plan is Monaco in 2025 because my brother will be living in Paris and I can use it as a home base.
Joining late so don’t know what’s been mentioned, but we’re halfway through the 12 seasons of Call the Midwife. I especially love seeing history and life evolve through their stories- medicines and changes in health treatment, world events, hairdos, technology, home decor…
We started watching The Tourist on Netflix. It’s an Australian production; the story revolves around a man who wakes up in a hospital in the Australian outback and has no recollection of who he is. Over time, he starts to find out his name and background, which bothers him. Season 1 is short–6 episodes. Season 2 episodes are now being released.
I stumbled on New Look on Apple+. It is about Dior and Coco Chanel (and others) during the Nazi’s take over of Paris, how they each had relatives held by the Nazis and who they tried to help.
It’s very interesting but I had to read the Time Magazine article to help me figure out what was going on.
We enjoyed Animal Control. Saw a new season is getting ready to drop too.
Also just saw the first episode of Eugene Levy’s travel show and enjoyed it. I think it’s called The Reluctant Traveler or something like that.
The first 6 episodes of Love is Blind, Season 6 dropped on 2/14. The remaining episodes drop 2/21, 2/28 and the finale is 3/6.
I started 1-6 on Saturday so it doesn’t seem like such a long time until the next episodes.
Has anyone tried Extended Family?
