Binge watched tv shows (Part 1)

Curious for those who finished season 3 of The Bear. Does it get any better?
We quit after (3) episodes. Far too much family dysfunction, and verbal anger. We enjoyed season 1 & 2 which had plenty of its own, but not nearly as relentless.

In general, no, doesn’t get better. It was interesting to read comments on the tv boards - people loved the episodes I hated and hated the parts I did like. So something for everyone!

But I did enjoy the last episode - not for the plot, but for the guest chefs and food porn and Olivia Colman.

Incidentally, sort of spoiler but not really

Someone at NPR tried to capture all those bits and pieces of the review that flew by, put them in a poem format, and gave their personal interpretation of what they thought it was saying. It made sense to me.

Watch the one about Tina’s backstory - Episode 6 called Napkins. I thought that was the best episode this season. And her husband is played by the actress’ husband.

I just finished Six Feet Under. Someone here and/or on Facebook mentioned how good the final episode was. Indeed it was.

I think I did and still haven’t finished up the last season, started watching it because a friend said it was one of her favorite finales.

Thank you for reminding me to watch some more. I’d binge watch but being doubled over in laughter for so long hurt my stomach. One of the funniest things in a long while!

Just finished binge-watching A Good girl’s guide to murder, soon on Netflix.
Clear sense of place (unlike US version of novel, that tried to pretend kids in Connecticut say “bunking off” and not “to skip”), strong actors, not just for teens - I would say it’d be interesting from 13+&adults.
Plot basics: strong student Pippa decides to do her EPQ (Extended research project for A levels) on the murder of a HS student she met as a 7th grader -?- on the day of her death. The girl’s bf, salil, was accused and killed himself and now the girl is depicted in an “angel” mural in town. Pippa applies her research and study skills to her project, trying to prove the boy’s innocence.
Found it atmospheric and quite good.

Had you read the book beforehand? We read it a couple years ago.

Yes, I had, but didn’t quite remember the plot. I had the US version that had oddly decided to have the story take place in Connecticut and so I appreciated seeing it located in its original setting as planned by the author. (Not sure why the American publisher thought American teens couldn’t handle a story taking place in a typical English town.) The setting manages to be charming, “normal”, and creepy. The young actors are quite good. It’s on BBC3 and iPlayer for now but will get to Netflix soon.

We finished Episode 3 of Season 3 of The Bear. So far, this season is lacking IMHO. I did enjoy clips of the celebrity chefs (recognized Daniel Boulud).

I really enjoyed celebrity chefs Joel McHale and Olivia Colman. I want to dine in the latter’s restaurant.

I also recognized Will Guidara, Christina Tosi, Wylie Dufresne, and Thomas Keller

I can only wish Olivia Colman had a real restaurant I’m sure but Curtis Duffy is doing fine.

People on the tv boards want to party with Chef Terry.

Hotel Portofino returns to PBS next Sunday July 28.

If you liked Cobra, about the British government’s crisis response team, season 3 is streaming (or about to) on Passport. No info on whether it will air on PBS.

I may watch The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart if I can find them. I was aware of them but didn’t watch regularly when they were airing. I did know about the fantastic final episode of Newhart because my mom couldn’t stop talking about it.

They’re both really good. I discovered the first with the birth of my oldest child, it was on when I would do nighttime feedings. I discovered a lot of old shows then.

Has anyone watched Your Honor with Brian Cranston? H and I started watching–we’re almost finished with Season One. I thought the show started out strong, but it’s getting melodramatic and just doesn’t seem believable to me.

Started watching Northern Exposure again on Amazon Prime. It has aged well. I think because it takes place in a (fictional) rural area with little amenities. I am guessing they would not have them even today.

We felt the same way. Enjoyed the first couple of episodes but did not finish the series.
