Binge watched tv shows (Part 1)

I treated “Perfect Couple” as a an entertaining beach read. Was surprised (but glad) that my husband was willing to make it part of our evening viewing.

The show La Grande Madison Tokyo on Netflix is so good. My husband and I binged watched the whole season. So sad that we finished it. The food and the story are fantastic.

Someone here recently mentioned The Americans so I’ve decided that’s my next binge re-watch as I’ll have Hulu access the next few months. Definitely a favorite so I look forward to revisiting.

I recently watched Keri Russell’s “new” Netflix show, The Diplomat. I enjoyed it…fantastically sharp, witty dialogue, political maneuverings and fascinating contradictions in the relationships. Season two is releasing in October.

I’m never looking for a show like The Perfect Couple to be stellar, award winning tv. It’s goal is to be entertaining, have some eye candy (the scenery and Shooter ) and not make me think too hard. Mission accomplished.

Just started it and so far really good.

Another culinary show that just started on Netflix is Culinary Class War. It is like a cross of Physical 100 (100 chefs start out) and the original Japanese version of Iron Chef (one on one faceoffs starting off with lesser known chefs vs better known ones after the lesser known ones get weeded to 20 from 80).

I just started the new season of Slow Horses last night, and I was so annoyed when it stopped after two episodes! I had it in my head that while I knew they weren’t dropping them all at once, there must be 3-4 episodes out by now.

The cast is just so universally excellent. (And the production design is impeccable.)

I am a couple of episodes into the second season of Hacks and I can completely see why it’s winning so many awards. Great writing, great acting. Jean Smart is amazing!

Before Murders in the Building, The Old Man and Slow Horses reappeared we had started on an older British series called “Monarch of the Glen”. We have enjoyed it. I love seeing the houses and settings.

Who’s watched the second half of the season of Emily in Paris?! Evidently there’s going to be a season 5. And from the way they ended Season 4 I’m guessing they’re going to just recycle the main plot with a new substitution and call it Emily in Rome.

I’m watching but not done yet. I’m a little tired of a couple of the storylines…and I’m not sure the beau I think she should choose is a choice these days!!!

Me. I didn’t love it. Another example of a great show that should have ended before being run into the ground

I agree. After this season, especially the second half, I like most characters less, which I don’t think the producers want to hear. I still love Luc and Julian tho!

DH and I have been surprised at how uneven the writing has been. Do different people write/direct different episodes? Some episodes are fun and witty; others are just dull and “blah.”

Has anyone checked out High Potential on ABC?
It’s adapted from a French show and is a funny banter procedural ala Monk, Castle, etc. silly not gritty. Morgane is Morgan, which makes sense, but they kept the same name for the male main character, Adam Karadec, whixh sounds ethnic Breton in French, wonder if it’s supposed to be Eastern European in the US version. Karadec is a by the book officer who takes his job seriously and Morgan is a high IQ/ADD woman who can’t keep a job.

Yes. But that’s common with TV. The onus is on the showrunner, in this case, Darren Starr, to guide the process to make it seamless. However, he also wrote the last episode of the season, which IMO was the worse

Yes, found it on Hulu last night and was preparing to binge the next episodes only to discover there was only one so far! I’ll wait a while till a few more drop.

Regarding High Potential - if you get broadcast TV, ABC has been rerunning the pilot practically daily, and I think there are a couple more runs coming up. Looks like it’s going to be a Tuesday show.

Rebroadcast Sunday at 8

Based on the Emmys, I’ve been watching Shogun, which I find excellent. The Richard Chamberlain version was well before my time, so I have no basis of comparison

H is on a fishing trip with his buddies this week so I watched the first 3 episodes of “A Perfect Couple”. Not what I would call great, or life changing but certainly entertaining and fun. I plan to finish watching this week.
