Binge watched tv shows (Part 1)

I’m watching “Disclaimer” on Apple TV+. I don’t know how I feel about this show. It’s definitely odd. I don’t think I would recommend it. I like watching Blanchett and Kline act, though.

We have started it. I was a little taken aback at the disclaimers (no pun intended) at the beginning, warning of graphic sexual violence or something? So far none of that has come up in the episode we watched. I do like Kevin Kline . . .not sure where this is going.

Oh, great! Thank you!

I just finished. I’ve been critical of some of the recent third seasons (I’m looking at you, Emily and Bear), but this one was as good as the first 2 seasons

First reviews on the Fall season…

  • Georgie and Mandy’s first marriage: kinda wanted to like it because I liked Young Sheldon but it just didn’t hold my interest
  • Doctor Odyssey : I liked seeing Pacey all grown up, ie., as old as I am, but I kept skipping forward. It didn’t seem novel in any way. I thought it’d be a mix of House and Love boat but I’m not sure what it was meant to be. Unless someone has seen EP 2-3 and consider those better than the pilot, I won’t waste more time.
  • High Potential : I like it, it’s light and breezy, but it hews close to the original episodes which I’ve already seen so it kinda spoils the twists. Morgan is less annoying, unprofessional, and vulgar than the original Morgan, and Karadec isn’t as developed but clearly not as uptight and grumpy as in the French version. The US version is very well done.
  • Matlock : my favorite. All the actors are excellent, the plot is tight in a fun way, the stories are good so far and feel “real”, within the show’s universe (for TV - it’s not a documentary)
  • Agatha all along : I don’t like super heroes but I figured witches would be okay and I like Kathryn Hahn. So far it’s held my interest, not something I’d take for granted. I like the concept of the challenge houses with their unique settings. It’s just the right side of scary for me. (The fight with the dagger almost made me give up but after that it was okay in my opinion.)
  • I haven’t started Murder in a Small Town, has anybody watched it?

pacey witter from dawson’s creek too

My review as one who loved The Big Bang Theory and liked Young Sheldon - Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage really, really sucked.

Harsh but not untrue.:yum:

My spouse and I were saying maybe we should watch the French version because Morgan was so annoying and unprofessional! So far I feel like they’ve toned her down a bit each episode (I think we are three in), to the point where she is tolerable.

I had similar feelings. Seasons 1-3 of The Big Bang Theory is one of my favorite sitcoms of all time. I loved the original premise of the show. The 5 characters all played well of each other, such as Leonard being the straight man to Sheldon’s eccentricities, but Sheldon was the stand out who really made the show. I liked how they had truly nerdy debates, such as whether Lois Lane would be split in to 3 pieces if man-of-steel Superman caught her at that acceleration. It was really clever, and the writers seemed truly knowledgeable about geek culture. Later seasons changed this premise, with more a focus on couple activities, but it was still good enough to watch. Sheldon’s eccentricities still sometimes shined, but at other times they seemed more like stupidity. Nerdy activities and nerdy debates were less common and less effective.

Young Sheldon continued the trend of the later seasons. There was still some interesting Sheldon eccentricities or nerdy debates, but the focus was often on other sitcom type things and other characters’ relationships.

Given my interests, I didn’t have high expectations for a show about Georgia and Mandy, without Sheldon. However, I still gave it a try. The show didn’t even meet my low expectations. I did not find it interesting or funny, and the excessive laugh track at events that weren’t funny didn’t help anything. The Big Bang Theory was something really original, clever, and interesting that I hadn’t seen before Georgie and Mandy seems to be just a generic sitcom set in The Big Theory universe. Being a part of TBT universe is not a good enough reason to watch the show.

I’ve been watching Doctor Odyssey and basically you have to suspend all belief of it resembling anything remotely close to what an actual cruise experience is like. About 90% of the show would never happen and most of the staff would be fired for doing what they do. That being said, and with that caveat, I’m enjoying it. I read a theory on my tv talk boards about what’s actually happening - way out there, but sort of makes sense. So I watch with that in mind.

I am generally a Marvel fan and did watch WandaVision and some subsequent movies etc., so finally started watching Agatha All Along. Surprised myself by actually liking it but need the tv boards to (a) remind me what happened in other shows that explain this one and (b) help me understand what the heck is going on. Otherwise I would be very confused!

Same here. I was skeptical at first since the character was never one of my favorites, but I am enjoying the series. But yes, you really do need to have watched WandaVision first and/or know the basic storyline from the comics.

Okay. Your comments and ski’s have convinced me to give it a try. I’d avoided it because I consider myself a Marvel movie/TV fan… I never read the comics or had deep discussions about the multiverse. Lol (But I grew up with a brother who was into all that.)

But it sounds like I need to revisit WandaVision before attempting Agatha so it may be awhile.

I’ve started the new season of Lincoln Lawyer… so far I’m enjoying it.

Lincoln’s Lawyer next on list. :+1::+1:
I didn’t really know WandaVision, I think if you watch just EP1 and the last one it should be sufficient (was enough for me.I liked the aesthetic choices and might revisit for that reason.)
Agatha is not a nice character but she’s not despicable either and the narrative structure is good imho

I haven’t watched Agatha yet, but will.

All episodes of Wandavision would be necessary to understand certain other Marvel releases, especially Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

I liked Young Sheldon and have watched and liked much of Big Bang Theory, most actually after watching Young Sheldon. I was going at least give George and Mandy a try, but now may not even. When they announced it I was surprised because they were my least favorite characters and plotline and I don’t think the actors were that good. A Missy and MeeMaw show might be interesting.

Finished Lincoln Lawyer last night. I thought it was pretty good. Husband liked it too, but he did manage to fall asleep watching it multiple times.

I think I’d skip that one, but I plan to at least give the first episode a try on the upcoming HBO Max series involving involving Stewart, Bert (Caltech geologist), and Denise (works at Stewart’s comic book shop). While none are my favorite characters, they may return closer to the original premise that I enjoyed – Stewart is hoping for unlikely relationship with Denise, rather than Leonard with Penny; Bert is Caltech researcher and socially awkward, supportive friend rather than Howard/Raj; and frequent references to nerd/geek culture. Perhaps they’ll have some others from TBT as guest stars. The main characters probably would be too expensive, but I wouldn’t mind seeing some more side characters, like Zack, visiting comic book store.

I really liked Big Bang and Young Sheldon but none of the characters in the current (Georgie) and proposed (Stuart, Bert) shows particularly interest me. I think they are trying to milk the “Big Bang universe” (in a cost controlled manner) a bit too much.

As an aside I just saw Our Town with Jim Parsons who did an outstanding job as narrator. Love how much theater he had been doing and the thoughtful roles he chooses to take on in both on and off Broadway productions.
