BEWARE Matlock SPOILER BELOW
The identity shenanigans didn’t bother me and I don’t think she totally made up her name. She used part of a real one and part of a fake one, right? Then the grandson created the fake identity so her paltry resume would seem legit - and it seems it partially was.
Then again I had no problem with the premise for Chuck.
There was a famous reporter in France who wanted to testify about being a laborer so she presented more or less her name, age, DOB, and for education stopped at her HS diploma, then added a few cleaning jobs and said she raised her kids but had gotten divorced. Despite her name being a byline in Le Monde no one suspected a thing.
(BTW an excellent film was made about the resulting book https://youtu.be/jl1dLVrCWTc )
I remember that book by an anthropology professor who moved into a freshman dorm to study freshmen lives - her explanation to her floormates was that her husband had left her, I think. Again, no one suspected a thing even if she really worried about her age being a problem or name being recognized. Nope.
I really, really like this show. I only planned on watching the pilot because there was nothing else on that night. And because I really like Kathy Bates. But the entire cast is good. I don’t have an issue with the implausible backstory because, let’s be real, every network drama has a degree of implausibility.
Just FYI and a PSA because it’s not obvious - there are a couple of ways to mask a spoiler. Highlight the text you want to hide and click the gear icon.
Totally binged all four seasons of The Good Place on Netflix and enjoyed every minute. So sad when it ended. Loved all the characters and very fun premise. Great writing.
Ok, I’m going to have to give it a 3rd try. The first time I only watched a few episodes and thought “eh”. The 2nd time I made it to more, but never finished the first season. Again, wasn’t catching me. Maybe 3rd times a charm. Same thing happened with Schitt’s Creek and I fell in love with it.
Oh, I was just thinking of doing a rewatch. I loved it soooo much. It definitely gets better and better, much like Schitt’s Creek. I get hesitating some at the start. But both ended up being incredibly wonderful experiences for me. Probably both in my top five ever shows.
I asked not to long ago and it’s above the heads of mods, has to be coded in or something; anyway, not going to happen was the bottom line.
C & P’d from an emoji online site. If you have the time and really want to.
I just watched an amazing documentary. The Remarkable Life of Ibelin. It’s about a young man who died from muscular dystrophy at age 25. His parents greatest regret was that his disability prevented him from having friends or making a difference in the lives of others.
Before he died he gave his parents a password to a blog he wrote. His parents posted about his death. Suddenly they started receiving hundreds of messages from World of Warcraft role players who tell them how much their son meant to them. Through 50k pages of preserved on line chat messages the documentary recreates through animation his life online. It is one of the best things I’ve ever seen. Do not miss it. It’s on Netflix.
I have an online friend who’s 21 year old has MD, it was an online group for women pregnant with twins and many of us are still in touch. I still remember when he was diagnosed. It’s been a hard 21 years for them, he now needs a caregiver 24/7. Thank you for the recommendation.
