I’m laid up today…and I just finished season two of The Diplomat.
It’s GOOD.

Oh good. I didn’t think it was very realistic (as the child of a diplomat, but never to fancy places like Europe), but I enjoyed it nevertheless.
BTW thanks to whoever suggested Shrinking. I still like Harrison Ford even if he’s not a heartthrob anymore.
I watched a Perfect Couple a week or so ago but I was confused so I looked up if there was going to be a second season. Nope, but I was still confused as they explained who dun it and why and I didn’t remember that at all. Turns out I fell asleep during 3 or 4 episodes and woke up to the end and thought it was still going one. So I watched it all again and NOW it makes sense.
I loved the location and the actors, but felt Nicole Kidman looked too much like her role in Bewitched (the hair).
Now I’m watching The Lincoln Lawyer but I’m watching it from the beginning of season 1 as I just couldn’t remember who was who. Enjoying it all over again.
We’ve been enjoying the new season of Lincoln Lawyer. Tonight we rewatched the last episode of season 1 of The Diplomat as a refresher and the first episode of season 2. We like the show, with the added bonus of having visited London (though a lot of the scenery this episode was in Paris, which we also visited but less recently).
Ooh, I will love the scenes in Paris. It seems like we’ve seen a lot of shows lately that were filmed in Paris. I want to go back.
That’s a good idea to watch the last episode of season one. I think we’ll do that tonight.
Most of the show wasn’t filmed on Nantucket–it was filmed in Chatham on Cape Cod. The Perfect Couple crew did do some filming on island. The aerial views and views of Main Street were definitely Nantucket, but the house was definitely in Chatham.
There was another TV movie (A Very Nantucket Christmas on the Hallmark Channel) that was based on a book by Nancy Thayer (a novelist who lives on Nantucket). The movie was filmed in British Columbia, which didn’t work at all because you often saw mountains. There are NO mountains on or near Nantucket.
Having HBO Max free this week on our cable system, we just finished season 2 of Gilded Age. So so well done. Having been to Newport many times, it was fun seeing familiar sights used for filming, and the set design nailed it in terms of what the Gilded Age mansions look like.
We laugh at how Julian Fellows always seems to have his “Edith Crawley”, the character who simply is not allowed to be happy and stay happy. Here it’s Ada, played by Cynthia Nixon.
Glad to hear that. We didn’t love season 1, but will likely start watching it this evening.
Shetland returns on BBC on Wednesday ![]()
I finished season 2 of The Diplomat. Loved it. Yes, it’s not realistic, but still a great watch. And OMG on the ending!!!
I love the balance and pivots between drama and farce - it’s so well done and the entire cast is just fantastic!
It just occurred to me that Keri Russell starred/stars in three of my favorite TV series (Felicity, The Americans, and now The Diplomat) yet I’ve not really cared for any movie she’s been in. Stick toTV, Keri! ![]()
Fun interview with Keri Russell on one of the most recent episodes of the Smartless podcast - I never knew her start was as a mouseketeer !
Thanks! I haven’t listened to that episode yet. I’ll search for it.
Her acting was such a masterclass in The Americans (as was Matthew Rhys’)—the arc of her character in that show, and how Elizabeth’s life progressed…whew.
I adore both Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys and The Americans is one of my favorite shows of all time - solidly in the top 5. I agree she hasn’t been in too many great movies but what about Waitress? I really liked her in that.
Chatham was the vacation place of my youth. Definitely not at that house, but I do remember the town.
Almost all Hallmark movies are filmed in Canada. The actors have fewer restrictions and I think because of the taxes. Some in Toronto, some in Vancouver.
I’ll have to rewatch season 1, I don’t remember a thing.
I stayed up until 7am binging The Diplomat. What a whirlwind! Was that the show finale?
No. It’s been renewed for Season 3.
