For some reason, I thought it has been cancelled but then I saw new episodes had been released! Perfect timing because I had just finished “The Empress”.
Did you like “The Empress?”
I am in the middle of watching the 2nd season of the Empress and I enjoyed it. I enjoy that time period and the subject matter is interesting.
You might not want to read this if you watch “Later Daters.” It has to do with Pam, one of the women featured on the show.
I decided to look up Pam since she said she’d been married to Steve Marriott, a British musician. That part is true, but she hadn’t been with him for many years when he died in the fire. She definitely implied she lost him to death, not divorce. He was married to another woman after her.
Turns out it’s Netflix’s #1 recommendation for me, I loved dating on the spectrum.
Not gonna read! Not till I’m done with the season
Oh, it doesn’t have anything to do with the outcome of the show. Just an interesting fact about her past - she was a little misleading about it. For someone who didn’t know anything about her past yet, I didn’t want them to see it.
I did. It was interesting to learn some history I didn’t know much about.
I’m 4 episodes in. I’ll likely finish tomorrow. I’m actually enjoying it more than the first season, which I commented on in 2022:
Black Doves on Netflix - a spy caper that’s frequently funny, frequently both funny and dark. Ben Wishaw in particular is terrific.
I just watched the last episode of “A Man on the Inside.” I think it’s one of the best season finales I’ve seen. It choked me up, especially when Charles gave a lecture on the Golden Gate Bridge, the exact kind of lecture my dad gave until recently (I wouldn’t put it past him to do it again!).
They definitely left an opening for a second season. So I googled it and read, “At the time of writing, Netflix has yet to renew A Man on the Inside for a second season. This isn’t unsurprising, but as you can see above, we’re currently predicting a renewal based on the show’s early performance in the Netflix top 10s and its Golden Globes nomination, with Danson nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor in A Television Series – Musical or Comedy.”
From visiting my dad in his facility, I thought they did a really good job of describing what it’s like to live there (of course, over the top in some respects on purpose, but still accurate). I loved the facility director - they really pegged her.
Binged One Day (on Netflix) last weekend. I enjoyed it, had never heard of the book or the feature film that came out 10 years ago until I read about it after watching the Netflix series.
I will definitely put that on our list. Our tour guide in Vienna at the Schönbrunn Palace told us the story of her so I’ve been curious ever since.
Watching Day of the Jackal, finished Black Doves before we started watching this.
Jackal is better. Eddy Redmayne is really good
Is it a sort of “catch me if you can”, cat&mouse thing where one kills a lot of people? Is it…nihilistic/dark/violent or is it more like Line of Duty or The Bodyguard (non stop suspense, some scary moments and sometimes you really don’t know who the good guys are… but it doesn’t make you hate all the characters or want to cry/bang your head when you’re done and it’s not violence-as-plot)?
More of a cat and mouse thriller.
The show we thought felt like an old fashioned, well done thriller with good music. With good suspense. Eddy Redmayne is really good, even my husband thought so and he had no idea who he was. The story is easy to understand.
Black Doves felt like a lot of British Netflix shows in that it was so confusing until the last and then it all came together.

I finished “Somebody, Somewhere”. What a lovely, lovely show. Amazing writing, incredible acting. I’m sad there won’t be more, but at the same time, it ended perfectly, like a beloved novel that you wish wouldn’t end, even as it finished right as it should.
We started this last week, it’s so good, I’m surprised I haven’t heard more about it.
Just finished The Sticky on Prime. Definitely has a Fargo vibe, bumbling yet violent criminals, dark comedy. In a minor role, Jamie Lee Curtis gives a scene-chewing performance, almost stealing the show!
It’s a fictional account of the theft of millions of dollars of maple syrup from the Quebec maple syrup reserves (yes, that’s actually a thing).
