I don’t think pbs will allow it. Is the PBS app available on LG TVs? : PBS Help
Boston PBS must have run the two Midwife Xmas episodes back to back, as it ran for 2 hours.
Yes, in Seattle we got two hours last night. (And I noticed there were separate credits for parts 1 and 2.)
Call the Midwife was 2 hours back to back in the US but part one last night and part 2 tonight (Boxing Day) in the UK. One of the only times the US gets to watch it first! I went to PBS.org on my laptop but it was airing live and had already started. I went to the app on my IPad and was able to stream it from the beginning. For free. Could have done that on the tv through the app on our Firestick but sons home for the holidays were hogging the tv and not interested in CTM. Like always, it was a great episode and I look forward to the storylines continuing this Spring.
Oh sorry, I didn’t realize the make of tv mattered. That’s a shame.
I have an old tv that barely can handle any streaming except the basics, but we watch through the Google tv device and get all our shows through that.
Did your PBS station only show part 1? Mine showed parts 1 and 2 back to back with no break between (such that I didn’t know it was in 2 parts until the end when they had credits for part 1 and part 2). Two hours total, but the holiday special is often more than an hour and close to 2.
At almost exactly the one hour mark, there was an obvious possible cliffhanger moment involving the Reggie subplot that looked like the obvious break between the 2 parts.
Daniel Laurie, the actor that plays Reggie, has been busy. He was also in the Sister Boniface Christmas Special
Anyone watching 100 Years of Solitude? We are watching in Spanish with English subtitles, it’s very good. I am pleased that my Spanish has gotten good enough to know that the Spanish I’m hearing has a different accent that the Colombians I hear on Dreaming Spanish (who are obviously making things easier for Spanish learners), and I can follow most of it. I am hopeful that this will be the push to get me to finally read the book. I’ve started it several times.
Not yet. I was waiting to see if anyone else has seen and would recommend.
The book was really good, although it’s been a few years since I read
I’ve only watched the first episode, but I feel like it gets the feel of the book (as far as I’ve ever gotten) very well. It’s beautifully filmed (long single shot of the naked son running through the village), the creepy ghost, the entire village which apparently they built from scratch, the journey through the jungle… We’ll see how confusing it gets when they get to the more complicated parts of the plot.
Just finished Netflix “Criminal - UK” Very good. The entire set consists of an interrogation room and surrounding spaces, so the emphasis is on acting and stories of both the investigators, the accused, and the effects of decisions made by either side. Often unexpected, and sometimes ambiguous results.
We’re now watching “Criminal-France”. Sets are identical; only the language and stories are different. Several other languages also represented in separate series - all subtitled.
I read the book decades ago, but it was one that took me to another world. One I got completely absorbed by. Give it another go!
I haven’t read it for many years–maybe more than forty. I know I liked it very much. Then i read a lot of Isabelle Allende and liked her magic realism even more, so I never read it again. I really have to, and more of Garcia Marquez’s work.
The 14th, and final, season of Vera started today in the UK. It’s 2 episodes and a final special airing January 1, 2, and 3 in the UK. In America, the first episode drops tomorrow on Britbox, and then the other 2 episodes airing at weekly intervals. I’m a bit sad to see it go, but Brenda Blethyn is 78 after all
Quick note that Apple+ is having a free three day offer now through Sunday - if there are any shows you feel like streaming.
We started watching Lockerbie and are on episode 3. Very interesting. I was in high school when it happened and remember how tragic it was, but never really followed what happened next.
Based on recommendations here, we’ve started Vera. We like it, and although seasons are short there are 14 seasons to keep us busy.
I just watched the first episode of New Amsterdam. Extremely unrealistic but entertaining. Leaving Netflix soon but presumably available on Peacock.
