For some reason there was a 3 month trial Apple TV offer on my Roku tv today (it said “last chance” but maybe I just didn’t notice it before) so I grabbed it and can’t wait to catch up on some Apple stuff I haven’t seen.
But first I’ll finish No Good Deed (listen, I don’t do scary tv - I don’t see this as dark!) It’s sort of like Desperate Housewives “scary” - with a good dose of drama humor. I’m on episode 6 out of 8 so doubt it’s going to get TOO dark before the end!
H and I watched the first 4 episodes of No Good Deed and we plan to finish the season. It is somewhat dark, but not violent so I’m ok with it. Actually I like it.
We’ve been enjoying season 2 of Lucy Worsley Investigates on PBS Sundays. After airing the first 3 episodes (out of 4) for some reason the last episode isn’t airing. I checked PBS Passport and it isn’t available there either. Just seems strange. BTW, it’s about Mary Tudor AKA Bloody Mary, Britain’s first female monarch.
ADDENDUM: Apparently it’s available on Amazon Prime Video, which would cost us to watch. First 3 eps are on Passport, why not this one?
I started watching No Good Deed yesterday, with exercise videos. (I would have preferred Virgin River, but I finished season 6). It might be interesting. I’ll check with my husband to see if he wants to make it an evening show for us. If not, it is my next exercise show.
My husband and I enjoyed “Shrinking”. Glad to see it’s gonna have a Season 3.
Another light hearted yet serious show we liked was “Man on the Inside” (Netflix) with Ted Danson. It will get a season 2, though it’s not clear if there will be more scenes from same retirement community / actors (including Sally Struthers). The next retiree/detective case will likely be elsewhere.
I sincerely hope you were kidding----I am not completely ignorant of history, completely aware of what transpired. I just enjoy Lucy Worsley’s programs, her access to places as a result of her former position in charge of royal palaces is enlightening.
Maybe throw in an lol or something, so your tone is apparent. Thank you.
No, I was serious. That was the result of her “investigation.” No real balance shown.
I’ll add in we did get a view of Framingham Castle in Suffolk, where Mary lived during the reign of Edward VI, and from where she gathered forces before marching to London to claim her throne from Lady Jane Grey.
So the episode aired in your area? Boston PBS is one of the "major "PBS stations so I’m surprised it won’t be shown.
We also get RI PBS, and to save $$ they seldom air big series when most others do. For a discount price they usually are a couple of weeks later.
The saying that history is written by the victors certainly applies. Same with Richard III. Tudors even ‘uglified’ him in paintings to push the monster narrative. Lucy also concluded he probably didnt kill the princes in the tower as well.
My husband was studying overseas and came home for the holidays on that same flight a day earlier.
I’m currently bingeing the Righteous Gemstones while I’m on the treadmill. I was sad and trying to savior the last season, but I just read yesterday that they are making a fourth and final season.
Silo was dark and the last season dragged, but due to the ending, I’m now awaiting seasons 3 and 4. Apparently they are already filming 3 and they have been greenlighted for a 4th.
WHEN IS HANDMAIDS TALE COMING BACK!!! I feel like I’ve been waiting forever.
BUMP Aussie dramedy - a season is 10 30mn episodes. Straight A Junior is stricken by pain and starts throwing up at school - appendicitis? Period cramps? Nope, it’s a baby (she had irregular ‘periods’ and didn’t have sex with her boyfriend so she wasn’t even aware.) Consternation for her parents, one of whom was content to live on his boat and admire his new tatoo, and the other an English teacher who has a crush on (affair with?) a colleague. Baby daddy is a sweet stoner/jock, son of a Chilean immigrant family and of aforementioned colleague-crush.
Really well-observed world of teenagers, blended families, etc. Not maudlin but not mean.
Am on Season 1 but season 5 (final) just dropped.
(CW used to show it but removed it from its line up, not sure if they have it on their website; may be on Prime or Apple TV?)
I ran into an old 2008 miniseries on Tubi (it’s on several other streaming) called Lost in Austen. It’s essentially an homage to BBC’s Pride and Prejudice where a modern British woman ends up in the book’s world, switching places with Elizabeth. She spends the four episodes trying to get everyone to behave like the book and hijinks ensue as things are very different than our heroine believes.
I enjoyed it partly because Hugh Bonneville played Mr. Bennett and Alex Kingston played Mrs. Bennett. I kept imagining that it was some kind of Doctor Who memory lapse episode and at any moment Mrs. Bennett would revert to River Song.
I also really loved Special. Starring Ryan O’Connell, the series is a semi-autobiographical account of his life as a gay man in Los Angeles with cerebral palsy pursuing new friendships. Not Australian but not for “prudes”.
You are the reason I got on the treadmill today, I’m getting very low on light comedies and shows my husband probably wouldn’t enjoy, and I watched 45 minutes worth. Sometimes I use not having anything to watch as an excuse.
