Has anyone watched Years and Years? I binged it when it first came out 6 years ago and loved it. I want to rewatch to see if it aged well as it was based on the “near future”.
I love hated virgin river too, but I also have some dark shows, so it’s like a nice gentle hug (except the whole twins thing, for many reasons, my #4 and #5 are twins, 23, and I’m guessing I referred to them as the twins maybe 6 times.
I just became aware that the actress who plays Mel on Virgin River is the same actress who played Sophie (Kevin’s longtime love) on This Is Us! Never put two and two together! ![]()
I just finished binging an Amazon Prime show, In My Skin. It was really excellent! It’s a Welsh show described as “a darkly comic coming-of-age story that follows 16 year old Bethan as she deals with the anxieties and insecurities of teenage life, along with the stark reality of a home life that is far removed from what she projects to her friends.” It’s funny, sad and poignant, all at the same time. It reminded me a tiny bit of Derry Girls, so if you liked that, you’d probably like this. The acting is exceptional. There are 2 seasons of five 30-minute episodes, so it’s easily bingeable.
Looks good, thanks for the recommendation! I need a break from “Silent Witness,” ha.
Yea, Silent Witness can be intense. We are in season 20-something, watch them now and then (watching part1 and part2 on same night).
We’ve recently started watching Vera, I think on BritBox. It’s a little easier to follow than some of the convoluted plots on Silent Witness and other UK procedural shows.
Ha, sometimes I finish a Silent Witness episode and think, “Wait, what happened?” Did X really commit the murder? And why? It is interesting that they don’t always tie up loose ends but leave you wondering.
Like Shetland. Silent Witness:Shetland::Long Division:Multivariable Calculus
I rate Season 2 of The Recruit as excellent. The best show that I’ve watched in a while. But not for the writers strike, the show could have been easily extended from 6 episodes to 8.
Netflix has not confirmed that there will be a Season 3 yet. Great characters, a little humor, and densely packed with action. ![]()
Any show that shares similar traits with the Derry Girls, interests me. Thank you.
I am binge-watching Slow Horses after getting free three month subscription. Love the show. I watched Tinker Sailor Soldier Spy. Gary Oldman is an excellent actor.
H and I just started watching Elementary. It’s a contemporary version of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Homes novels; the series is old (7 seasons from 2012-19). We’ve gone through most of Season 1. So far, we’re enjoying it. Lucy Liu as Watson is excellent as is Jonny Lee Miller (Holmes).
Oh, my. Then I could never handle Shetland, ha.
Have you watched Bad Sisters?
I really liked that show back in the day
Not yet. Needto finish Season 4 of Slow Horse aone more season of Ted Lasso first.
By the way, have you watched Deadloch? I have heard there is a Season 2
I have watched deadloch, loved it, thank you, H also liked that one.
LOL my DH says I “hate watch VR.” I love watching it for the beautiful scenery, clothes, acting etc.
But at the same time I am thinking, Wow, the same 10 people must keep Jack’s bar in business yet they NEVER work to earn money. And how often can Doc just up and leave the clinic to attend to a kitten in a tree or a person in a car accident (don’t they have EMS?)
And don’t get me started how the weather is always perfect and temperate. No one ever needs a coat, it never rains (unless germane to the plot) and no wind, mud, etc to disrupt all the idyllic festivals, fairs and outdoor movies LOL
This’d festivals something else, every time our town has a band in the park it rains.
Shetland can be tough, especially in seasons where they stretch one case across all the episodes. My husband started keeping notes on character list. But… we really do like the scenery and the show. Recent season seems easier to follow.
I really like Shetland. The last 2 seasons have seemed to show a bleaker landscape - less “pretty island” and more “isolated communities with hauntingly beautiful landscapes, key word haunting”.
