We just started watching The Newsroom, and wow! So much feels like someone made a documentary backstory of present events.
I didnāt watch it the first time around, so will definitely have to put this on my list.
H and I started watching We Were the Lucky Ones. Finished the first two episodes (on Hulu)āitās excellent.
I thought it was an excellent show too - very impressed with the entire cast. My DH had read the book and wanted to watch the show. After watching it, I picked up the book but wasnāt impressed by the quality of the writing so decided I didnāt need to read it. Amazing that it is a true story, based on the authorās family history.
The Newsroom is amazing. It still feels so topical!
Reporting back to say that I quit watching The Handmaidās Tale one episode into season three. I just decided that I couldnāt do three more seasons of seeing these poor women suffer.
I did too. Itād be even worse now.
In Afghanistan, women are not supposed to exist. There are lots and lots of suicides. I shudder to think some could be sent back after escaping the horror.
And of course ProPublica or Jessica Valenti have reports showing have horrifying tales from within the US, too.
But Iām going to try and watch season 6 for closure since, presumably, thatās when they win.
That was something I wondered ⦠how many seasons it would be. I was going to watch the last episode of season 5 in order to see how it ends, but I will happily wait another season!
Moss is an amazing actress. Dh and I would regularly laugh at how much she would say with one look. But the rest of it was so disturbing. I didnāt like any of the men. Poor Nick had the misfortune of looking like my HS bf so I just couldnāt with him, even though he is somewhat sympathetic, I suppose.
Ballard, the Bosch spin-off, will be released on Wednesday.
Secrets of Penguinsš§. Beautiful cinematography. Amazing birds.
Anyone watch this?

The blistering British comedy āSuch Brave Girls,ā on Hulu, centers on a dysfunctional family and features many of the archetypes one sees in a sadcom. But instead of slow poignancy and personal growth, āBraveā is all about feral, filthy awfulness. Itās hilarious and electrified, perfectly deranged.
Colin Farrell, Robin Lord Taylor, Danny Devito, and Burgess Meredith?
We just finished Ludwig Season 1 (Britbox, 6 epsidoes). So glad to read there will be a Season 2 next year
Itās a UK detective story, but not much gory stuff (one obligatory murder victim shown in each show). Parts are heartwarming and funny. Sort of a mix of Monk and New Tricks. It satisfying to have one small mystery solved per episode while a bigger story, with a lot of family interactions, unfolds across the season.
Ludwig is very good indeed - and often quite funny.
Iām watching Death Valley, which is about a young Welsh detective who befriends an old actor who used to play a detective. Mostly a comedy despite the murder at the beginning.
If you are a Grantchester fan and missed last Sundayās episode, watch itāHUGE reveal about Alphieās past!!!
I love Grantchester and I have finished this season due to having PBS Passport. It was delightful all the way around, IMO. I got an email from PBS yesterday announcing they are filming the next season, but it will be the last. I will be sad to have it conclude as I love my peaceful escape programs on PBS like Grantchester, All Creatures Great & Small, and Call the Midwife. When the nurse tells me to go to my happy place while my blood pressure is being taken, itās typically to a PBS show scene!
I mean, at some point the vicar of Grantchester will demand to be put on the police payroll and receive all perks and benefits, given that the vicar does all the work that the police should be doing!!! No wonder this has to end!!! (satire intended, of course)
I finished Season 4 of The Bear last night. I enjoyed this season, it was Sooooo much better than the last one. ( which was a disaster IMO) Itās not near as great as the first two, but there were a few episodes that were just as good. One very heartwarming.
One thing I liked is that last season the Fak brothers were made out to be idiots. Now, they are back to being how they were before. Entertaining and funny.
After the finale, I felt disappointed. However, after reflecting on it today, I think it was good. It really sets up next season to be interesting and take us in a new, yet same, direction.
Bosch fansāa spinoff series (Ballard) started on Prime yesterday. H and I are Michael Connelly fans (read all his book) and are looking forward to starting this spinoff.
Iāve watched the first 8 episodes of Ballard I am really enjoying it, although I think they are jamming in too many subplots. I think thereās about 3 different books merged into the season.
On a related note, Iām reading Connellyās new novel, Nightshade. Itās a standalone, or perhaps the first in a series, and am enjoying it as well
