I mean that is what happened in most cases to these huge estates, is it not?
Lynley just dropped its first episode on BritBox. Based on Elizabeth George mysteries featuring a Viscount who works as a police detective and his female working class partner. Seems enjoyable. Sad that there are only going to be four episodes.
Thanks!
Theyâre double episodes each so itâs like a typical British âseriesâ of 8, and if it finds its audience they have something like 30 books to draw inspiration from
Is it just me? I finally started watching â White Lotusâ and after 3 or 4 episodes I just canât get into it. I loved â Hunting Wivesâ so clearly itâs not the genre.
We didnât love it either.
I am only halfway through season 1 (of 2) of Platonic (AppleTV+) and really loving it. Lighthearted, great characters, just plain fun.
âThe Paperâ debuted this week, a take off on âThe Officeâ and itâs setting is in my Ohio town. Going to start watching it this weekend and will report bad. The reviews arenât horrible so far! (Midwest just often gets bashedâŠ)
âFollowing up on the story from âThe Office,â the documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflinâs Scranton branch discovers a disappearing Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters. This mockumentary follows the daily lives and struggles of dreamers in love with journalism, and their less-than-competent co-workers, trying to deliver accurate news without the resources or training to do a great job.â
I was expecting it to not be good just because thatâs usually how spin offs go, but I saw a positive review and I plan to give it a try.
Just saw that somehow itâs already renewed for a second season!
Thereâs so much weariness about streamers cancelling after one season and in turn viewers deciding they wonât invest in watching the showâŠ. that they may have wanted to avoid that pitfall?
The way Nielsenâs worked for TV shows was flawed (some cancellations were clearly unwarranted) but at least there was a clear way to know whether something worked:weekly numbers (then +7 and +30), the move to Friday night, the Back-Nines. At a minimum you were guaranteed to spend 13 episodes following characters youâd come to like. With streamers itâs 8-10 episodes and then you may be done for no discernable reason.
I suspect the renewal on the day before S1 drops is more of a marketing gimmick to increase positive talk/print about the new show and generally improve public perception of the show, on the day that S1 drops. The Office is one of NBCâs most valuable assets. When Netflix last had the rights to stream The Office in 2018, it was the most hours watched show on Netflix, with Netflix viewers watching a combined total of ~2 million episodes of the The Office per year. NBC paid $500 million the get streaming rights of The Office back from Netflix in 2019, and The Office is almost certainly among the most streamed shows on Peacock in terms of hours watched per year. A similar themed spin off to The Office that exclusively streams on Peacock is one of the safest possible bets for a new show. If the show is not awful, a lot of persons are going to view the show. Even if it is awful, a good number of persons will join Peacock to give it a try.
Based on the reviews so far, the majority believe the show is not awful. And I expect NBC has seen a large number of persons join Peacock in past few days for the show. It would be shocking to me, if NBC was not open to renewing the show. However, if something unexpected happens in the future, NBC has the option to back out of their earlier media statements about a S2 or have an extremely lengthy delay, with nothing seemingly happening.
I wouldnât join Peacock for the show. However, my Instacart subscription includes Peacock, so I plan to give it a try. I like how they dropped all 10 episodes at once. I rarely watch shows on a 1 episode per week format, so I wait until almost all episodes have dropped before beginning.
St Denis Medical is a spin off of The Office - sorta - in a medical setting, and it is hilarious IMO. 81% on Rotten Tomatoes.
I watched the pilot last night. The first 10 mins or so were slow but then I absolutely found myself chuckling a bit. The lead guy seems to really carry the lead.
Oscar is back. Thatâs a little odd. Hopefully he isnât just there for throw back moments
There are a couple of actors from Superstore (another filming a documentary sitcom) on St. Denis Medical, the actress who played Sandra is a regular and the actor who played Mateo is on occasionally. David Alan Grier as the jaded older MD whoâs seen it all is great.
I thought The Paper was just okay â not great and not awful. The show makes it abundantly clear that it takes place in the same universe as The Office and is linked to The Office, yet The Paper makes a strong effort to distance itself from The Office. There is no Jim-like character or Dwight-link character, or persons regularly playing pranks. The 3 bosses are all completely different from Michael, as are the other characters. Itâs an office mockumentary with unique, flawed characters, but beyond that they are completely different shows.
I didnât find the characters in The Paper as likable as The Office, particularly Esmeralda. I also didnât find the style of comedy and jokes as funny. The first 2 episodes are especially weak. The show doesnât catch its stride until later on, when they get more in day-to-day activities. I did find some of the later episodes entertaining, such as the episode with the Josh Holloway (Sawyer from Lost) dating app scammer. However, I donât plan to continue with season 2.
Mockumentary probably isnât my genre as I am not a big fan of any of these shows. I did especially enjoy Curb Your Enthusiasm, if that qualifies.
I watched the first two seasons of White Lotus and thought they were OK, but not great. There were some excellent actors, e.g., Jennifer Coolidge, F. Murray Abraham. I didnât like the third season at all and quit watching after the fifth episode. I thought the Walter Goggins character was interesting. (I was a big fan of his in Justified.)
I like St Denis Medical! Looking forward to Season 2. Just looked - begins on Nov. 3rd.
Iâm almost halfway through the last season of âOzark.â I would definitely not watch it if I had it to do over, but I want to find out how they wrap it up! I find myself depressed after every episode. DH is about to pull the plug on it, I think, ha (JK).
My husband and I are at exactly the stage with Ozark. Too late to turn back now! Hard to sleep after an episode so I always make time to watch a Great British Sewing Bee to chill.
just finished dexter: resurrection. also rated 9.2 on imdb
