Binge watched tv shows (Part 2)

It’s truly a masterpiece and I think all the actors knew it (and make it what it is - the scene between Catherine and her sister in the cafe is worth studying in drama, writing, and acting class imho).
It’s amazing they were able to wait for that one character to be the right age for the plot and the ending.

We’re three episodes into the latest season of Wednesday and thoroughly enjoying it. The writing and acting are delightful. I read that far fewer people are watching it this time around, and I’m really surprised, as I think this season is at least as good as the last.

My one issue, and it’s a me thing not a them thing, is that sometimes scenes are so gross and gory that I can’t watch. Other than that, it’s great.

I, for one, don’t like Wednesday this season. I enjoyed the last season a lot. This season is not able to live up to it, IMO. Almost stopped watching after the first couple of episodes.

I just finished watching an entertaining first two episodes of “Chad Powers,” which is based on Eli Manning going undercover as a college football walk-on at Penn State.

Glen Powell stars in what appears to be a redemption story of a disgraced former star college football player.

You know that I love football. And I love UT fan Glen Powell. But that shows looks horrible to me.

We finished several shows recently.

Dexter Resurrection - this one took awhile, because I had trouble getting a couple to play, so we switched to Original Sin. We both loved Original Sin. Not as much as the original, of course, but it was a solid show and we were disappointed it’s not being renewed. I LOVED Resurrection. It was so much like the original, possibly better. Michael C. Hall IS Dexter. I even liked Harrison better in this one vs the sequel. I thought the ending was well done (unlike the original!)

Terminal List/Dark Wolf - we both loved this one as well. I wasn’t as crazy about the first couple of episodes in Iraq. I much preferred them in Europe! And the story was a bit hard for me to follow. I’d still give it 9/10 stars. H would give it 10/10

Alien Earth - if you’re a fan of the Alien world, you’ll probably like this show. The quality is great. It feels very much like the movies. The story is interesting. The characters for the most part are likeable. But it is strange… The first several episodes I found myself struggling to stay awake - but not because I was bored or disliked it. I thought I was just tired until later H admitted he was the same. He calls it a slow burn. The later episodes pick up the pace more.

We’re still in the middle of Peacemaker/Wednesday/Only Murders in the Building. Like them all. We aren’t as crazy about this season of Wednesday, but we’ve only seen maybe 3 episodes. I don’t care for her Dad. He’s too goofy. And her brother is too big…

i’ve been watching Chief of War while I row, keeps me interested and I know a bit more about Hawaaian history now (okay, the tv version can’t be totally accurate).

We also started the latest season of Slow Horses which is just a delight. A weird, funny, snarky, complicated delight.

I’d have to agree with you. There was article that talked about how Season 2 was going to be so much better, and really we don’t see it. Still watching of course. Just not as enthusiastically.

The Guardian totally disliked this season of Slow Horses(as well as the new season of Blue Lights, their reviewer may be in a grumpy funk this week?)

On the contrary, I’m really liking it!
(But, yay me, seems like Radio times agrees with me :winking_face_with_tongue:).

Roddy would be a nightmare in real life but is so surprising in his (lack of) understanding of reality, like a surrealistic character .
Gary Oldman’s reading of “just tell them that, it’ll save us time” was hilarious.
I loved how they decorated Roddy’s apartment and the way he brandished his sword with lights (NOT a lightsaber), as if it weren’t a toy :joy:.
Not liking River and thinking I’m not supposed to :winking_face_with_tongue:.

As for Blue Lights Season 3, I binge watched it over 3 days because it’s so very good. I had to fast forward through some scenes in episode 5 (no spoilers but your clue will be that they’re in a restaurant - if you’re squeamish fwd through the fight and return when it’s over.) I think it starts about a year after the end of Season 2.

As am I. I really like how they’re adding some texture to Roddy’s character. That said, I’m not like ving that River seems to be on the back burner.

As an aside, Gary Oldman was knighted by Prince William today. Technically, he’s been a knight since June, but the investiture ceremony was today. Allegedly, William told Oldman, “I just want to give you a good wash.”

@MYOS1634 where did you watch Season 3 of Blue Lights? BritBox only has first two seasons, which I watched a while back, but Season 3 isn’t showing up there yet.

On BBC iPlayer - should make it to Britbox in the same timeframe as last time?
The BBC has only shown episode 1 but I couldn’t wait - the entire season is available on iPlayer. I don’t know how people are going to just watch one episode a week!!! :scream:

Almost every other reviews, but the Guardian, like Slow Horses Season 5. Even the Prince of Wales who knighted Sir Gary Oldman on Tuesday is a fan of this show.

So far, these first two episodes were darker than I thought. River’s attitude has been more negative than in the book, too.

We like to bet on who is going to die on Slow Horses! Right now I just want Shirley to get a new coat, ugh.

There are lots of videos of the cast doing interviews that are hilarious.

I think River had his season(s) and this is Roddy and Shirley’s season. I haven’t read the books though. Locking the group of them in the office - I’m expecting some hilarious interactions and dialogue.

I read all Slough House book series but the newest t one, Clown Town. So far, the tv show stays very close to the book which I am happy with.

Two things that bothers me, Will Smith (the English one) left the show after Season 5. A new lead writer has shoes to fill. Then, they have combined two books, Joe Country and Slough House into Season 6. Wish they did one book a season.

We are headed to London next week, after being there a year ago. So it’s fun to have the new Slow Horses episodes. (I’m also reading Iona Iverson’s Rules for Commuting, also set in London - fun). Considering it is a mystery show about terrorrists, we do laugh a lot.
