Binge watched tv shows (Part 2)

I haven’t seen that show, but I ALWAYS switch to subtitles, not dubbed. I remember when I started watching Lupin and the American English coming out of those Parisian characters just sounded ridiculous. Now it’s just automatic for me to switch.

The Diplomat Season 3 is in Netflix today

I think it got pretty ridiculous last season, but we will likely check it out. Thanks

The new season of Matlock (with Kathy Bates) is out on Paramount Plus. I’m going to wait until all the episodes are released to watch. If you haven’t watched, it’s a legal series with a few interesting twists. Kathy Bates and Beau Bridges are great.

Which is May 2026. I’m not waiting🤣 I’ll watch episode 2 tonight

For anyone who’s not aware, Matlock is a regular network show, not just on Paramount. So if you have access to broadcast CBS, you can watch it weekly.

Watched the first episode of The Diplomat. Thought it was great!

My H hadn’t watched the first two seasons with me, and wasn’t going to try to follow it now, but got immediately sucked in.

The addition of Bradley Whitford is a plus for West Wing fans. It’s like Josh Lyman and C.J. Cregg reunion

Lots of good shows right now! In addition to Slow Horses and The Diplomat, we are enjoying The Last Frontier on Apple TV.

We were traveling for a couple of weeks, but are now caught up on the Morning Show and Slow Horses. We will likely start The Diplomat this weekend. I also need to watch Chicago Med and Chicago Fire - haven’t seen any of the new season.

@cfmom - thanks for the Last Frontier comment. We thought the previews looked good.

Currently watching “Years and Years” (filmed around 2019), which is fascinating and frightening (not in a Halloween way) on mirroring many current events. Per Wikipedia: The six-part series follows the lives of the Lyons family, who witness increasingly tumultuous global affairs and the rise to power of Vivienne Rook.

Binge watched Riot Women BBC iPlayer right now, Britbox end of the month.
It’s absolutely unmissable imho - excellent and bingeable ; mostly for women though I’m guessing (there are very few men, all in supporting roles: son, ex/husband, date, colleague, boss…)
The blurb that says it’s about the menopause is not quite correct - even if the main characters are all well into their fifties, except for Kitty (who appears as a total mess and becomes the lead singer) and have many things to say about it, it’d like saying The Wire is about drugs, not untrue but very reductive. Nor is the shortcut that it’s about women forming a band - that’s what it is, but this isn’t a "rise to fame"story. The “dark throughline” (as Sally Wainwright put it) indirectly becomes clear during a fancy Indian dinner in episode 3.
Mostly it’s about friendships, being made invisible when you stop being either decorative or reproductive, and challenges that come with being 50+, while also being a joyous story about music and self expression (even if one character’s attempt at lyrics turns to be You’re all bast**ds, F.u all, etc. - which matches what Beth tells her student smirking at the thought his teacher could be in a band “And you thought the Clash were angry”).
Rosalie Craig, until now Royal Shakespeare/West End musicals, is magnificent in a role that must be really different from what she’s used to. And I don’t even like punk rock. :joy:

Don’t miss if you’re a 30+ woman (or partner to one )

Finally, PBS is showing The Gold starring Hugh Bonneville (Lord Grantham of Downton Abby). I recognize two Slow Horses, River Cartwright (Jack Lowden) and Emma Flyte (Ruth Bradley) in this show.

The show is based on a true story of a Brink’s-mat robbery and its aftermath. Just finished the first episode. Excellent performances and a compelling story. It is worth watching.

I watched episode 2.01 and didn’t like it very much (too much sentimentality+was that fake out needed?) I’ll see if I like episode 2.02 better. Or perhaps I’d liked season 1 so much that I had too high expectations!
Also looking forward to The Diplomat.

Just finished the last episode of The Diplomat today. It was excellent. Loved Josh and C.J. back together again! They still have that same chemistry.

Can’t wait for Season 4!

If you’re a Murdoch Mysteries fan, do not miss last week’s episode (2nd of the new season). Heartbreaking scene involving major characters. Lest I reveal spoilers, that’s all I’ll say.

Thanks. I just finished episode 1 and was hesitating for Ep2. :face_with_peeking_eye:

My absolute favorite and I recommend it to everyone. I watched when I was first released and it was amazing how spot on they were about things that hadn’t even happened yet (at the time of filming). I definitely want to watch it again, but last time I looked, I wasn’t about to find it anywhere. Where are you watching it?
