I never even knew there was such a thing on the TV until this week, as the one we watch in the FR is 14 years old.
It really is distracting and although this sounds odd, I “see” them acting.

I noticed this too on a movie I was watching downstairs this week. Good to know it’s the TV.
@conmama @MYOS1634 and others. Don’t know if this helps any, but I have a very low-end Vizio 4K smart tv, and my remote has a button labeled “pic” that cycles through a half dozen preset picture settings. Sometimes I have to check the options when I’m watching something that seems so dark I can’t make out what’s going on. I wonder if other brands have something similar, so you don’t have to go into your settings to tweak things.
And, oddly, I’ve never had an issue with motion smoothing/soap opera effect on this set, but I know what you’re talking about because I’ve definitely seen it on other people’s TVs.
I have started watching Down Cemetery Road, a new detective show based on a novel by the Slow Horses author, Mick Herron. He wrote this novel series below he wrote Slow Horses.
It stars Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson (Alice from Luther). I am 2 episodes in and like it. It is on Apple TV.
In my opinion, The Last Frontier is really pretty bad.
I haven’t started it but I was hoping it was escapism like Prison Break. Is it?
I watched Down Cemetery Road episodes 1&2. I’m liking so far even if I’m not keen on the “state conspiracy” part. The actors are all very good, especially Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson of course. She said filming took place over EIGHT MONTHS!
“Your friendly neighborhood assassin” lol for a terrible situation.
I haven’t seen Prison Break, so I can’t tell you if it’s similar. I thought it was promising at the start, but not so much any longer. But since we are this far in, we will likely watch it til the end.
Thank you.
Unlike us, we have abandoned quite a few shows after we felt they have gone downhill, become boring, ridiculous and/or jumped the shark.
I’m rewatching Poldark. I made the mistake last week of “just” watching the first episode. Once again, I can’t tear myself away. It’s been four years since we binged this series. I haven’t seen anything better since. Everything about this program is perfection.
Has anybody started “Pluribus” on Apple TV? It looks interesting.
I watched episodes 1 & 2. I’m not hooked yet but I’ll keep watching because I love Rhea Seehorn and Vince Gilligan.
thanks for the tip- going to try it tonight
Agree. H and I just started Season 3 of the Diplomat last night and watched 3 episodes. it seemed really disjointed. I’ll probably keep watching, but H bailed on me.
Imho skip 4&5, they nearly made me give up on the show. ![]()
I finished The Diplomat season 3 last night. I feel like they had a good plot sketched out for this season and then stretched and padded it to fill 8 episodes. Lots of relationship drama, including among some who seem to have little chemistry. But also some great acting, particularly by the West Wing alums. I feel like Keri Russell abruptly shifts her character’s personality in various scenes when a more subtle shift would be more realistic.
It has a good finale.
For those with Comcast, Starz is free until Sunday.
Started Blood of My Blood, to fill that Outlander need until the series wraps up in the spring.
I just finished Nobody Wants This. Perfect easy watching at bedtime.
Thanks!
