Death by Lightning on Netflix. Interesting look at politics in the late 1900s through the events leading to the assassination of President James Garfield. Some noted similarities to today. A dramatization of historical events so not 100% accurate but I enjoyed the performances, particularly Matthew Macfadyen as the assassin.
Season 5 of Emily in Paris has dropped on Netflix.
Season 2 of The Pitt starts 1/8.
A new season of Shrinking will start Jan 28th
Started Emily in Paris last night and watched the first 2 episodes. They seemed very forced and just not the same writing skills. Scenery is beautiful but I’m disappointed so far. Does it get better?
Her hair is very chic, but makes her look so much older. I like her other hair.
I’m 8 episodes in. It gets better, but it’s relative. They’re better than the earlier episodes, but not as good as earlier seasons.
I posted about Heated Rivalry once before but I thought this made it worth of another mention. I am loving it. https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2025/12/22/heated-rivalry-episode-5-just-tied-breaking-bads-perfect-10-imdb-score/
Thanks, at least it gets a little better. A few times I was saying “oh come on”. Fragmented.
2 part Call The Midwife Christmas Special airs tonight and tomorrow on your PBS station and the PBS app
This Christmas series (4 episodes, 27 min each) is more of a movie. We enjoyed it. Holiday theme, a bit of a “Home Alone” slapstick vibe, sweet ending.
Just stumbled on an Australian crime drama called Black Snow. It was set in Queensland. It is a good show that kept us guessing whodunnit until almost to the last episode.
Both husband and I enjoyed it think it is worth watching. Season 1 is free on Acorn. Unfortunately, Season 2 is on AMC which we don’t want to pay since we have several streaming services already.
I get Acorn through Amazon Prime amd it says both season are available through my Acorn subscription.
We can’t for Season 2. AMC owns this show. We have Acorn, Prime, Apple TV, etc. they won’t let us watch Season 2 unless we subscribe to AMC. Glad you can.
The Beyond Paradise Christmas special was fun and very sweet
- cases they have to solve: a drunk guy whose mates glued his snowman costume shut, an old man with dementia, a robbery at the pub. ![]()
Next: Call the midwife. I’ve missed a couple seasons, is it the 70s yet?
Pluribus is my end of year watch plan, is there a full fledged discussion forum for it somewhere?
I started Forever on Netflix. I was expecting an updated version of the novel and I’m not sure if I’m misremembering or if many changes were made in addition to updating (for instance I was not expecting the cinema moment and the subsequent language in the first episode, though it makes sense ofc. )
Yes. Last season was 1970
Did they change the credits? (They did for 50s->60s and it was the best thing - from B&W bomb site rubble piles and babies in homemade pouffy onesies, to color, improvised games, no-safety-sear sidecar!)
I guess I’ll have to catch up on the last season.
TBH, I skip through that part
Next up - Death in Paradise Christmas Special
Just finished Season 4 of Poldark since it’s on Netflix and I am really enjoying it.
Do you purchase Acorn through Amazon Prime? Or some other way?
We get Acorn and others through Roku.
