To be factual, the real title no one uses is Cosy in the rocket/nobody knows where they might end up (I own that first mini season DVD with the music etc and will hold on to it for dear life
) Nobody calls it that and âGreyâs Anatomyâs Themeâ makes a lot more sense than the official title, which I think is too cute by a half.
Dexter (2006) is one of my favorite TV shows of all time, particularly the first half (seasons 1-4). I previously watched New Blood, and just finished Original Sin today. I plan to watch Resurrection in a few weeks.
I really enjoyed Original Sin. One key difference from the two prior series is the ending. By far the lowest rated episode in the 2006 Dexter is the final episode. No other episode in the 96 episode series is even in the ballpark. The ending was almost universally despised. New Blood gave the writers a chance to improve and give a more satisfying ending, but instead the ending of NB was somehow even worse. It was almost as if the writers wanted to say, âYou thought the original Dexter had a bad ending? Iâll show you what it means to have a truly bad ending.â However, Original Sin finally has a decent ending. Over the 10 episode series, I enjoyed the final episode the most.
Overall itâs a great prequel, with a 2006 Dexter feel. It adds some interesting insight in to the Morgan familyâs history, taking place in 1991 when Dexter is a pre-med college student interning at Miami Metro, and Debra is a high school senior. Both Morgans have many entertaining interactions. This period includes Dexterâs first kill, which was well discussed in the earlier series, as well as subsequent kills that were not previously discussed. Itâs a good lead in to the events of S1 Dexter (2006) and could be watched first.
I thought the series might not work with a different actor playing Dexter, but after a short while it felt natural. Using Michael C Hallâs voice helps with this transition, and Patrick Gibson does a good job with the acting and looks close enough. I did not like some of the other casting, particularly Christian Slater as Harry and Sarah Michell Gellar as Dexterâs boss. Iâd rather have the most fitting and talented actor for the part, rather than choosing a recognizable name. I would have liked to see a Sargent Doakes type character who recognizes something is off about Dexter, rather than all enablers.
Many aspects of the plot are unrealistic â improbably occurrences, unrealistic decisions, many things that couldnât/wouldnât be possible in real life, some things that just seem to happen for the purpose of getting the plot where needs to be, blatant fan service, etc. The show also misses much of the character building and degree of Dexter social awkwardness in a world he doesnât understand.
However, overall I think itâs a good show. I doubt it will win any awards, but I expect most fans of the original Dexter series will really enjoy this series as well, like I did. Iâm surprised it was not renewed. While the prequel did not have the all time record high viewership of New Blood and Resurrection, it was still one of Showtimeâs most viewed (per episode) shows ever. Itâs my understanding Original Sin was initially renewed with a planned season 2 in 2025, then Showtime reversed that decision following the merger and subsequent new management, deciding to focus on Resurrection.
One week to go until the Season 2 premiere of The Pitt. ![]()
Iâm at the end of season 7 of ER, itâs getting me excited for season 2. Last nightâs episode dealt with a measles case and affirmative action.
I finally caught up with all episodes of Chicago Med and Doc! ![]()
Iâm binging West Wing (now that I have HBOmax)
I have the same question Iâve had every time I have binged West Wing. I didnât watch when it originally aired.
On the first episode of season 7, they start with a dedication of the Bartlett Library so have the old west wing cast waiting for him to arrive (Josh, CJ with Danny, Toby not in jail so you kind of know he didnât go to jail, etc.) There is no Leo who dies at the end of season 7 but they wouldnât had known he was going to died when they filmed the first episode of season 1
Anyway, was this their way of telling us that everything in this season works out well? Did everyone originally watch this and figure out who was going to win the election?
I have thought of that so many times. What if Leo had been in that scene? I guess we would all have pretended to not remember.
Him not being there was deliberate. If Leo had been in the scene, then the audience would know who won the election (if called âLeo,â Vinnick won; if called âMr. Vice-president,â Santos won), which would make the next 16 episodes anticlimactic.
Scrubs is one of my favorite TV shows of all time. So, donât harsh my mellow. ![]()
And I loved the original run of Frasier and Murphy Brown (never a fan of Night Court), but wasnât a fan of the relaunches. I loved Scrubs as well, and will be pleased if it succeeds in the return.
Just finished the first episode of the new season of Shetland, Season 10. So far, so good. I am glad that its quality has been consistently good over many years.
Just finished Emily in Paris. When watching the recap, I thought that I didnât remember any of what they were showing, but I got back in the swing easily. Such eye candy. i think the chef is so hot and who she needs to end up with.
Alfie is awfully good looking as well.
I gave up on it after season 3. Hate the whole which guy thing, though Iâm team Alfie all the way. Chef guy was so annoying.
Emily will end up with Mindy. Just kidding. The new Italian guy is interesting too.
Finally got around to starting the new season of Emily in Where ever. I really donât care who ends up with whom since no one has the emotional maturity to carry out a healthy relationship. (Edit to add, maybe Alfie does.) So Iâm just watching for the prettiness of the scenery, locations, and food. And somewhat the fashions, although I donât like Emilyâs Roman hairstyle, if thatâs what it is.
Not a typical show discussed here, but weâve been binging the History Channel series Secrets Declassified with David Duchovny. Talk about batcrap crazy defense projects funded by taxpayers!
And some of those were downright criminal. Nuclear landmines in the UK powered by⊠chickens? Yup. A flying saucer to carry US soldiers? Yup. Telepathy communications with nuclear subs? Both Americans and Russians looked into it. Nuking the Moon? It is a miracle some of these were terminated before things went bad.
As we countdown the hours until the first episode of season 2 of The Pitt, below is a segment that aired on CBS Sunday Morning plus an extended interview with Noah Wyle:
Just finished Hostage. With only 5 episodes, it was a quick watch, but I felt like they could have done so much more with more time. I think 8 episodes would have been perfect.
If people remember, stating what channel or streaming service a show is on is very helpful.
Thanks
