Great show. LOL - I just mentioned on a FB discussion yesterday that I was a big fan of the fictional press secretary CJ Craig.
And smooth transition to VP in The Diplomat. ![]()
Spoilers below
She becomes president on The Diplomat (and her husband is played by Bradley Whitford).
Loved Aidan Turner so much after recently watching Poldark that I started watching Being Human (his previous series which is now on Amazon Prime) about a werewolf, vampire, and ghost living together. It’s a fun, engaging show! There was a US remake so make sure you are watching the original UK version. And yes, he is in the latest season of the Diplomat but I watched that before I discovered Poldark so I didn’t pay as much attention to his scenes as I should have ![]()
How do you binge? One episode a night? Watch it all in one weekend?
I love Parks so much. It helped us get through Covid. We have rewatched it many times. I am now listening to Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast where she interviews many Parks and SNL alums. It’s legit helping me get through the current times without ever talking about them more than in passing. I was listening to her interview Rachel Dratch today and it’s just so fun to hear them laughing with each other.
from me!
I just saw Rachel Dratch in the Encores High Spirits show! Will look for the podcast!
Have been binge watching For All Mankind (AppleTV)
It’s really well-done and suspenseful, I love noting the slight changes from our timeline (they keep B&W TVs longer but they start on EVehicles in the 80s, etc), the main characters are compelling, the special effects are great and their designer team sure spent time looking for real styles and objects (the Pepsi can! The old Doritos bag! The braided oval tablemat we used to have but orange not blue
! The “regular” clothes that don’t look NYC sharp&fancy except for TV Star Tracy ..)
My favorite character is Molly Cobb, I feel really bad for Ellen, and I completely changed my mind on Gordo from 1×01 to 2×05.
New Season of Dark Winds is out. We watched the first episode.
One episode a night? My goodness. That is not binging in my book! Lol. It woukd definitely be all in a weekend.
We watched this when it first came out. Probably time to watch it again. And watch for the “small changes” that we missed the first time.
We recently finished “The Tower” (Britbox). Very well done. It highlights the different approaches to law enforcement. When (if ever) is it ok to “stretch” the truth? What can or should be ignored? What are the consequences?
Ooh, that looks really good. I love that kind of story.
I watched the first episode of The Pitt yesterday. It does seem far more realistic than other TV medical dramas I’ve watched. However, realism isn’t the reason I watch TV. Based on only the first episode, I find other medical dramas more entertaining, such as House. I have no doubt The Pitt is a higher quality show and more realistic. Nevertheless I find House to be more entertaining and enjoyable to watch.
I did not find The Pitt bad. It’s more I have lots of possible shows I could watch, and there are numerous other shows I’d prioritize. I may or may not try the 2nd episode to see if it gets more interesting (to me), as the characters and overarching plot become more developed.
I’m caught up on season 2 and it’s one of my favorite shows. I love the fact that each season takes place in a single day. Season 2 is set on the 4th of July.
Which is reportedly the busiest day in most EDs. I hope I get to see this season…eventually.
And it’s also when the last year residents have all moved on…and the first year residents are just beginning.
A good friend of ours had to be taken to the ER by ambulance on New Year’s Eve around 10 pm (slipped on porch stairs leaving a party), was there all night (broke back and ribs), and said you could definitely see when it was after midnight by the activity level increase.
With the exception that each episode is 1 hour in the ER, and tests are coming back and people are moving to ORs and being released. Hmm, I don’t think so.
I was in the ER for about 3 hours and all they did was a blood test and look at the rash on my legs and sent me home as there was nothing they could do. On The Pitt, they do about 5 things on each patient in an hour with results back.
I still like it.
My statement was in comparison to other TV medical dramas. The Pitt isn’t a documentary about true events, but it’s more realistic than other TV medical dramas I’ve watched, which isn’t a high bar.
My earlier post compared The Pitt to House. I consider being a real-life Dr House comparable to being a real-life Batman. It’s theoretically possible, but if a doctor regularly broke in to patients home, costs the hospital millions in lawsuits and damaged equipment, openly abused drugs while treating patients, ignored all authority in such a way that risks patients lives and sometimes kills/debilitates patients, medicates patients without permission or in some cases against their requests, physically assaults patients and other doctors, … he/she wouldn’t last as long as House did. There are also more basic realism issues, including House leading a Department of Diagnostic Medicine whose purpose is to solve extraordinarily rare cases that nobody else can solve each week.
Nevertheless, it’s an entertaining show. The lack of realism is part of what makes the show so entertaining. House is an interesting character – a deeply flawed, antisocial genius, with a sarcastic and cynical view of the world, yet still maintaining important personal relationships with others who love and care for him. He seems to be influenced by Sherlock Holmes, including sharing the same apartment number, as well as his style of explaining the clues and solving the mystery at the end, after he and others make numerous failed attempts. If they toned down House to a real life doctor who could maintain his medical license and toned down the medical mysteries to typical ER cases, I expect I wouldn’t have liked the show.
On The Pitt, they do about 5 things on each patient in an hour with results back.
Actually, many patients’ storylines cross across multiple episodes - so representing several hours. Sure, it’s not 100% realistic, but it closer than any other TV show that I can recall
