I watched “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” when it was first on. I found it enjoyable in a quirky way. It’s a nice break from reality.
For the past 6 weeks I’ve watched one episode of All Creatures Great and Small (PBS) per night before bed. All 6 seasons. I’ve become immersed in living in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1930s and 40s, taking care of all the animals and visiting with their owners. Although I have a few questions like does Mrs. Hall have her own bathroom or does she have to share? And why doesn’t she get to live in the bedsit? I saw there will be a season 7 and 8 eventually. Looking forward to it.
I have watched “Kimmy” for a long time. My kids still put it on sometimes. It’s hilarious.
I finally caught up on the rest of Bridgerton Season 4 last night. After reading the tv boards, I had to go back to catch the last post credits scene. I still like Kate best of all the characters. Not impressed at all with Benedict.
Very different and fun. Be prepared for wacky.
I could use some wacky these day and will check it out! ![]()
Kimmy Schmidt got us through Covid lockdown. “You can do anything for 10 seconds!”
Tina Fey created and produced it and also has a role in it in later episodes.
If you like the theme song you’ll probably like the show. “They alive dammit!!” That’s really all you need to know right there.
Oh that is one of Tina Fey’s shows, starring a cast member from The Office. Very quirky!
I am loving ACGAS. So sweet and a nice antidote to the current world.
I too wonder about Skeldale House. How many bathrooms are there? And how does Mrs. Hall have time to do all the shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry, and still also help with the random surgery client!
I wonder anyone here has watched Young Sherlock (on Amazon Prime). I just started. So far, so good. Sherlock spoke Mandarin to a Chinese Princess and more. Look to be an entertaining series.
@MYOS1634 love to hear your review if/when you try it.
I did. I really enjoyed it. It brings some interesting backstory to Sherlock and Moriarty. I did find episodes 4 and 5 to be less engaging than the others
Hero Fiennes Tiffin, part of the next generation of the Fiennes family stars as Sherlock, with his uncle Joseph as his father. Colin Firth also has a key role. Directed by Guy Ritchie
Last week I saw three episodes of “Rooster” starring Steve Carrell at movie theater promotion. I enjoyed it although the NYT review is mixed. Starts today on HBO.
Both Rooster and Vladimir take place on college campuses! ![]()
I hope we can review/discuss both here on College confidential. Do episodes drop all at once or weekly (sorry, haven’t checked, but if weekly they could deserve their own thread together..)
I’m finishing For all Mankind. It’s more sci fi and less alt history – with the moon-, asteroid-, and Mars-mining – so I find some parts less interesting, at least so far..and thus I’m not binging it
. I realize the 2000s are history too and I’m just starting episode 4.2.
If you’re interested in their re imagined alternative history:
Mars, which in our real world is about 10-15 years away for any crewed ship, was 2 years away with nuclear fusion then is 1 month away with plasma technology.
In 2000, Al Gore got elected (Republicans lost for being homophobic and not backing the Republican but openly gay president after the OklahomaCity-Bombing-like Johnson center bombing). No Supreme Court recount or hanging chads. The Clintons are a forgotten page of 90s history. Fossil fuels aren’t a problem because no one is using them anymore, nuclear fusion and plasma/helium being so much more efficient energy sources. As a result, all the people who used to work in fossil fuel industries are unemployed, protesting, and/or trying to find work on the moon or on Mars.
The first non-brick mobile phones have appeared, those looking like “ladybirds”, whereas they’ve had fixed AppleVideophones in forever.
It’s interesting that in the all timeline, fashion styles remain consistent with our timeline’s.
@rphcfb : I do have Young Sherlock on my list. ![]()
Rooster is one episode a week starting tonight at 10 EDT.
Season 15 of Call the Midwife begins March 22 on PBS. In the UK, the finale aired tonight, and what an emotional one it was!!
I have pbs passport so already started.
I watched the first episode of Love Story last night. I liked the 90’s soundtrack and NYC during that time. The show itself is ok, but there is a lot of controversy over how people are portrayed. I just assume it is a fictional retelling.
Anyone else less than excited by Season 2 of Matlock? I enjoyed Season 1 (especially early on) but to me it has turned into a muddled, vengeful, drawn out mess. I wish they would tie up the Welbrexa plot and move forward. I love Kathy Bates but we probably will not be watching much longer.
Curious how others feel.
Same. And for the same reasons
I quit last fall after episode 2 of season 2. I had read about all the behind the scenes drama with the guy who played Billy and I was tired of the Welbrexa plot as well. I also love Kathy Bates, but not enough to devote my time to this show. On the other hand, I love Elsbeth even more than ever and am likely to continue to watch indefinitely, despite how I feel about CBS right now.
