Binge watched tv shows (Part 2)

Generation Kill (2008) on Netflix. True story about a group of US Marines in Iraq.

Based on a book written by the embedded reporter in the show.

Seven (7) episodes–probably an hour per episode.

The reporter who wrote the book which serves as the basis for the movie committed suicide about 20 years later at age 59.

Worth watching, but disturbing.

I’ve watched the first 5 of 6 episodes of Unchosen (Netflix). I’m really enjoying it. The lead male actor is Asa Butterfield, who also starred in Sex Education (which was also great).

This afternoon, I needed something in the background as I was doing something else and turned on Dinner with the Parents (Prime). It’s really cute. Each episode revolves around a weekly family dinner. Episodes are a 1/2 hour and you can fly through them (I think I’ve watched 3). Pure comedy. Nothing too heavy.

I could not get into North by North. Maybe I will give it another shot.

I’m probably on the caboose as far as talking about this but if you watched Jury Duty and liked it, don’t miss Company Retreat - their “part 2”. Still a cast of characters and laughs as far as I’m concerned.

I loved it, especially the last episode, like a sweet warm hug like you get from shows like Ted Lasso, Shrinking, and love on the spectrum. We are watching the new season of Beef so I like to have more gentle shows in the mix (but I do really like this season of Beef).

Watched it last night. Wow. Fantastic acting. So sad.

I thought I was the last person who hadn’t started watching Breaking Bad until just recently, but a friend I went out with said they’re thinking about starting it. Another friend said they thought Better Call Saul was actually better. I guess I have a lot to watch…

I suspect that your friend was teasing you.

Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad are in two different leagues with Breaking Bad being the far superior show.

They actually weren’t, but most people seem to agree with you.

Better Call Saul is a masterpiece. :face_holding_back_tears:
Like Mad Men or The Wire, it’ll be remembered for long.
(Like Pluribus is shaping to be, though in a very different tone, totally different universe, characters, storyline, problems, etc.)

And since Vince Gilligan believes in physical supports/objects, you can borrow the DVDs from your library or buy them to keep as you would for hardback classics you treasure.

There’s an official podcast.

And the Gilliverse interviews are always excellent.

On a transatlantic flight recently I watched the first 3 episodes of Ted Lasso (only 3 offered). Despite being the 3rd of 4th time I watched them, I was laughing out loud! That show is truly a balm for the soul. (I recall how Jason Sedakis described it on SNL— a show about 2 things American don’t care about: soccer and kindness!)

I’ll try again to watch Better Call Saul. I have tried multiple times, but failed to get engaged. On the other hand, I could not stop watching Breaking Bad which was outstanding in almost every respect–especially in its originality. And that may be a significant difference between Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul as the latter lacked originality.

I did a complete rewatch this winter, after just watching it last winter. I didn’t get bored at all, and just fell in love with the story again. We love it so much that when we went to London in February, we made a trip over to Richmond! It was just delightful, I’d love to go in the summer. Had lunch at the Prince’s Head (Ted’s bar). Although they use a set fur the show, it’s a perfect tv replica, so it was fun. I didn’t tell my husband or son that, though. Just made it seem that much more fun.

Just finished season 2 of Deadloch. I was not a fan. In season 1, I remember thinking Eddie was too over the top, but with I got used to her or she got into her groove or whatever. But season 2 was just entirely too much yelling and too much swearing from too many characters. I thought it took away from the show.

Regarding the BB vs BCS discussion. I watched BB after it had ended, based on a lot of recommendations. And I agreed. It’s a great show. Then I watched BCS as it aired, and I thought, this is great, I can’t wait to see what happens next. I somehow felt more involved with the characters. I’m glad both of them existed and I’m glad I was able to watch them. If I had to pick a favorite it might be BCS but ask me tomorrow and that might change.

The Dutton Ranch, a Yellowstone spin-off by Taylor Sheridan centered on couple Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, premieres next Friday on Paramount+. 9 episodes, with 2 episodes dropping on Friday, and then 1 episode weekly.

Breaking Bad was phenomenal. It did have a better “hook” than BCS, but, of the two, BCS was the more amazing of the series. No contest.

Agree. Deadloch Season 1 was quite outrageous, off the wall but funny and entertaining.

Season 2 was just like you described. It turned me off and I could only tolerate about 3 episodes. Too bad.

I started watching America’s Culinary Cup only because one of the participants grew up in the town where I live. I hadn’t watched any of these chef shows in a long time, but have watched all of this series and enjoyed it. The finale is next week.
