Binge watched tv shows (Part 2)

Yesterday was the last episode of Hacks. It was fabulous, funny and heartbreaking and deeply satisfying. Added bonus, the Paris shots . (I bet they were edits.)
If you have HBOMax, it’s worth watching - 5 relatively short seasons. And they want to have a real DVD :dvd: with commentary and bloopers. :raising_hands: Physical media you can keep forever :raising_hands:

No, but bottom line, she wasn’t asked back

Agreed. I was a bit nervous at the beginning of the episode, though.

They were filmed in Paris

It was a love letter to the fans. And the music was wonderful throughout, especially the final scene (no spoilers).

I loved it too. And Jimmy!

:face_savoring_food::grinning_face:I know they were filmed in Paris. First because some pics were leaked from when they were around the 3rd/4th and second bc I could recognize quite a few places - coincidentally (or not) they were the exact places where I took the American students who came this Spring, including that bakery in the Marais, the bridge to Quai Branly and the Eiffel Tower (bakery and bridge my picks, Eiffel tower theirs :innocent:)… And I’ve gotten so used to these Petits Manèges I had forgotten they were uncommon in US cities. :innocent::face_savoring_food:

By “edits” I meant that each scene must have been much longer then cut but hopefully will be on the DVD :dvd::folded_hands::blush:

Anyone watching Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed on Apple+? Tatiana Maslany (of Orphan Black) is really great in it.

Here’s a good review from The Guardian:

I cried and laughed through the episode tonight! And now I need to go back to Paris!

I watched years ago and think it got to be too much for me/too “ick”). Loved all the regular characters though. But I LOVED the regular Law and Order. And recently watched the UK version.

I loved Law & Order: Criminal Intent when Vincent D’Onofrio was on. Less so with Jeff Goldblum. Sadly, it’s been off the air for years.

However, in Canada, they just wrapped the 3rd season of Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent. Unlike L&O UK (where I loved Harriet Walter) they are not recycling old US scripts.

Sadly, there were cast changes announced ahead of season 4

City of Shadows Spanish detective show (6 episodes) has disturbing crime scenes, with burning bodies. If you can get past that, the Barcelona scenery is enjoyable (especially if you have been there) and the story/characters are interesting.

Anything to watch on Apple TV before I end the subscription? After Hijack and Shrinking, I don’t see much that interests me.

So much to watch on Apple TV: Slow Horses, Black Bird, Tehran, Criminal Record, Bad Sisters, Down Cemetery Road, For All Mankind, Ted Lasso, Stick, Silo, Severance, Drops of God…

I’m about to start Margo’s Got Money Troubles (Apple TV+)

Other good shows I’ve enjoyed on Apple TV (besides the ones already mentioned) are Pluribus, Your Friends and Neighbors, Imperfect Women, Foundation, The Morning Show, Presumed Innocent, and The Last Thing He Told Me

@Iglooo
Seconding Ted Lasso and Pluribus!
Ted Lasso is a fish out of water comedy. It’s about rising to challenges + can you be competitiveand kind?
Pluribus is existential sci fi. If an alien virus killed or melded everyone into a Hive, if it killed your wife and left you all alone, and a representative of the killers showed up smiling on your doorstep with a bottle of water, what would you do? Would you try to save the human traces in the Hive, kill them, use them, manipulate them, not care..?
(For Pluribus if you’re not used to watching for clues/character development without dialogue, you can turn on the audio commentary for the visually impaired- right next to the subtitles, to help you “see”. It’s the opposite of the basic Netflix move of having characters expose things to each other that they’re supposed to know, the viewer is assumed to be paying attention. It’s the best show I’ve seen in a while and Rhea Seehorn is outstanding.)
Bad sisters if you like dark humor.
Widow’s Bay is a mix of funny and scary, comedy and horror. Mathew Rhys offers another great performance in a genre that’s totally different from The Americans. Type Widow’s Bay in Google for fun.
Star City is another alt-history that follows the same timeline as For all mankind but from the USSR pov. It’s more about spies and covert operations and science in a totalitarian dictatorship than it is strictly about astronauts.

I’m waiting for the new season of Silo which works well because I have summers off. I’m going to turn AppleTV back on July1 to catch Silo and For All Man Kind. One of my summer goals is to watch more shows instead of scrolling. My summer goals are pretty achievable :joy:

I loved it.

Have meant to watch it. Spent a lot of time in ABQ over the years and always got a laugh over the show’s name. In the 90s, the preeminent personal injury lawyer in Albuquerque was a guy named Ron Bell. His ubiquitous billboards had the tag line - Injured? Better Call Bell. Given the setting, I have to think that was the inspiration.
