Binge watched tv shows (Part 2)

Ludwig Season 2 starts today, looking forward to it.

Finished Neagley (a Reacher spinoff that’s new) and enjoyed it. It’s fast-paced, has a great ensemble cast, and it stands on its own (really don’t need Reacher–although he has cameo appearances in the beginning/end.) Plus, there’s going to be a Season 2!

100% agree. In fact, I liked Neagley more than the most recent season of Reacher

I wasn’t a fan of Neagley. Perhaps I found the plot too disturbing – I don’t know. As a rule I tolerate this genre (including Reacher) as it is what H enjoys but give me a good rom-com any day.

Based on the 100 best shows thread, DH and I started watching Derry Girls (first time) and are really enjoying it.

Because the American version of The Office is one of my favorite comedies (have binged through it twice), we decided to try (again) to get through the British version and finally finished it last night. So painful.

We enjoy the lovely gentleness of Ted Lasso but wish they had left perfection where it was. We watched the new season, but it just didn’t hit anywhere close to the original arc for me. I can’t stand the Keeley character and thought the cameos of the original cast made this season seem like a weak wrap-up when none was needed.

Same here. I’m 2 episodes into season 2, but it’s hysterical.

We finished Ted Lasso last night. I liked it in general. I loved parts of it, and hated parts of it. The whole Tracey Ullman character/plot just needed to go away. Keeley can grate on my nerves, but I didn’t find her too annoying this time. I like her with Roy. Dislike her scenes with Rebecca. I did love the new female coach. I thought the finale was sweet, but not as amazing as some.

We also finished Reacher over the weekend. I said I liked it better than season 3 in the beginning. I am not so sure about that assessment now. The villains were just way too cheesy and lame. I still liked it better than H.

I will throw a new one out there. Furious on Hulu/Disney +. The rotten tomato description reads as “An (female) FBI agent is on the hunt for a mysterious and calculating female serial killer. Both walk their own paths toward justice, and as their lives start to intertwine, the line between right and wrong begins to blur.” That doesn’t give too much away. There are a lot of heavy topics relevant to today. Every single person has their cross to bear, so to speak, and it is interesting how those burdens affect their jobs, relationship, etc. It is well written, well acted, and a fair amount of dry humor/sarcasm that keeps it from being too heavy.

We also started watching Below, I think on Netflix. We are only 2 episodes in, but are enjoying that so far. It’s about a tiny poor fishing town in Newfoundland that has something bad going on under water… probably due to global warming

Had no idea who this was until we finished the show and totally agree that that plot line needed to go away. It seemed like the show was trying too hard to find some tension and could only come up with a lame replacement for the well-drawn Rupert character of the original story.

Love Ted himself. If you can’t improve the show, please don’t try. That’s why God made streaming, so we can enjoy perfection on repeat.

After you’re finished with ‘Derry Girls’- Lisa McGee also wrote ‘How to get to Heaven through Belfast’. It is on Netflix and is really good.

I cannot believe that YOU have not watched Derry Girls previously! Your TV watching is so well-rounded!
So much tv, only so much time I guess.

Yeah, I’m not sure how I missed it the first time around. It definitely wasn’t a case where I purposely decided not to watch.

I really enjoyed Furious too. I started watching it when they announced the second season, not realizing the first hadn’t even ended yet.

I didn’t realize there was a season 2 coming out. Yay! H will be pleased, as well.

Loved Derry Girls (especially after I started watching it with closed captioning on…).

Okay, I’m waiting to hear about the update of Carrie on Amazon Prime. I’m trying to hold out until my daughter can watch with us.

I don’t think it is possible to watch without closed captioning! Even with it I often had to rewind a little.

We just started it last night. I’m not a big Stephen King fan, but I REALLY liked the first episode. It’s produced by Mike Flanagan (haunting of hill house, midnight mass, house of usher). H is a huge Stephen king fan. He says it differs a lot from the book, but he still really liked it too.

I can watch without closed captioning, but I did have to LOL at James’s frustration of them “calling things ‘wee’ that aren’t actually small.”

I’ve watched so much British and Irish TV that I can watch w/o close captioning too, but we do have it on most of the time in general.

A few years back I watched several episodes of season 3 of Derry Girls on an Aer Lingus flight. There were no captions available—even with the airplane noise I got the gist of it but realized I missed so much funny dialogue when I re-watched later at home WITH captions!
