Binge watched tv shows (Part 2)

H and I finished up Ted Lasso last night. I agree with others that it was not as good as previous seasons, but it still hit the spot for us.

I find it very hard to watch stuff on the plane with the distractions and ambient noise. If it turns out to be a good show or movie, invariably I end up having to rewatch once home

We have watched 3 episodes of Ted Lasso season 4. We still find it funny and endearing. We are trying to stretch it out, just watching an episode now and then when we need a break from grittier TV.

We finished 2nd season of The Gentleman. My husband enjoyed it more than I did. Ugh, it just kept getting uglier and more brutal. (Though it did have an occasional funny moment.) We almost forgot to watch the last episode after distractions with other things, and in retrospect that would have been OK. I probably should have left that as one of the shows he watched alone. I do give it good marks for scenery in UK and Italy too.

Just finished the third season of Shrinking and happy to find that it was renewed for a fourth season.

Brett Goldstein is 3 for 3 as a writer for me with Ted Lasso, Shrinking and Soulmates.

Oh… we may have to check out Soulmates.

I think I’ll have to give Derby Girls a try again. It took me 3 times with Schitts Creek and I just love that one.

It took me several tries to get into it. Now I think it is a brilliant series.

That’s good to know I wasn’t the only one, thanks!

I think I’m going to start calling children “wains.” Such a lovely word.

We are almost finished with the new season of Slow Horses, and then we’ll start The Diplomat. Foe less stressful watching we love GBB and Abbott Elementary, but if you’ve never watched the Canadian show Kim’s Convenience, it’s wonderful.

I may need to switch it up; I’ve long ago taken to calling them “bairns” in my best Sean Connery accent.

Totally agree with this one.

Also, two short series I highly recommend are One Day (2024 version) and After Life, both slices of life/death beautifully done. We’re re-watching After Life right now. It’s too hilarious and sad at the same time.

We have been watching Slow Horses, Ted Lasso, and GBBO on a weekly basis, interspersing on the in between nights, and as each one ends, with Somebody Somewhere, a rewatch for me but first for H.

Just want to put in a plug for the latter show, which even as i remembered was wonderful, is even better on second watch. Just did second season finale and it was so moving and perfect. One of my all time favorite shows. H is loving it too. I wish it had gone on longer!

we’ve watched so much The Repair Shop that DH now regularly uses “chuffed” in Connery accent.

Quick reminder that Season 4 of The Diplomat dropped on Netflix yesterday. I watched the recap and thought, wow, that’s a lot to try to remember! Admittedly I was sleepy and almost dozed off a bit during the first episode but not by the end. Then was gripped by episode 2. The relationship between Kate and Hal is filled with fire and nuance, and Allison Janney as always commands the screen.

Just wait until episode 8.

I don’t understand Hal and Kate at all. She of the wandering eye, he of the endless ambition —- they are hard to root for, but it’s a riveting show

They love each other, they hate each other, they support each other, they undermine each other…Kate is brilliant but her own worst enemy, Hal is ambitious but erratic. It’s a convoluted relationship for sure! Their scenes together are sometimes quiet, but packed with unspoken meanings.

We started Season 2 of The Gentlemen last night. I needed something to keep me awake since we are just back from an East Coast trip and I didn’t want to fall asleep too early. First episode was good. The Diplomat will probably be our next watch.

Where is the recap? After watching the first new episode last night, I think we need it! Especially DH with his memory issues, ha. He barely remembers the show.
