Binge watched tv shows (Part 1)

Just started watching Collin from Accounts on Paramount+. It’s an Australian tv show (romcon genre) so a bit raunchier humor but not nearly as bad as Dead Lach! Really enjoying it! (Spoiler alert: Collin is the dog)

Just finished Fisk on Netflix an Australian sitcom. I really liked it. Dry humor.

Just started Deadloch. I saw someone called Broadchurch-Lite. It is raunchily funny. It is not for everyone but we had a good laugh watching it,

Just started Lessons in Chemistry. H had not read the book but was definitely charmed by it. So far–one episode–I feel that it’s living up to the book as I remember it.

It helps knowing the bad word used in every possible variation and combination is not as bad in Australia, more to the level of “sh…”
But it’s really funny indeed AND a legit mystery. After much discomfort (I hate bad language), it’s one of my favorite shows of 2023.

Just finished “Better” (a unique take on traditional British crime drama).
A little slow at times, but we both appreciated all the ‘grey’ areas (few characters are solely “good” vs. “bad”). 5 total episodes on Hulu.

I’m going back to revisit some old favorites and am watching Brothers and Sisters now. I forgot how funny it is for a drama.

I rewatched that last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. I forgot so many plots and scenes it was like watching it for the first time.

I watched B and S for the first time last year (?). Really enjoyed it.

Have been thinking that maybe summer 2024 I’d try and rewatch the entire Desperate Housewife’s series. So many memories of that one!!

I don’t like excessive use of foul language but I have more tolerance to it than many of my friends.

I watch Deadloch the same way I watched Derry Girls. I overlook the bad language and enjoy the humor and the story.

Six episodes into Lessons in Chemistry. And I’ll admit, I’m a little disappointed. The changes in characters (especially Harriet) are turning it into a different story. That story it wants to be now is an important one, of course, but it doesn’t make logical sense and just seems grafted onto this story. Like, it’s being used as a shiny object, almost trivialized, not with the gravitas it should have as its own story. Every story can’t tell every story, and I think this one is losing its center by trying to.

Still a lot to like; I just don’t feel it’s retaining the coherence of the book (and I get that adaptations can’t be exact. I just don’t this one is served by being changed this much.)

Same. I feel like it did capture the spirit of the main story. Still wondered about the need to add more characters / storylines.

I agree and they weren’t even handled well. Can’t say much more without spoilers.

I also started watching Colin from Accounts, 3 episodes in and wasn’t sure I’d like it but I do! The comedic timing and expressions are really good. I also like British mysteries and stumbled across Madame Blanc. It is not very deep, surface level intrique but fun and quirky characters keep me interested. I’ve watched 4 episodes and still watching.

Not sure if anyone here has watched the 1st season of Reacher, which was a long time ago, but Season #2 is coming out Friday 12/15.

Not a “fun” series, but “World War II: From the Frontlines” on Netflix is a must-see if you are into WWII history. So much amazing footage, and they’ve enhanced it so a lot of it almost looks like modern-day photography. It makes everything seem more real. And there are some very compelling stories, like the Polish couple who get married during the Warsaw Uprising.
