Bombing hits BostonMarathon

Pretty clear from listening to all sorts of experts that this was not accidental. All news reports are now calling these explosions “bombings.” This was brazen, with explosions being set up in an area crawling with police and race security. Whoever did this knew there would be lots of cameras to cover the aftermath of horrific injuries and devastation.

Interesting observation Lergnom.

It was not “almost at the end”. It was peak time for older age groups. Clock time 4:09 or so. I would have been around then! I have SO many friends running there today. I am waiting to hear from a couple- most have checked in and are safe. I am just devastated by this.

:(

The local NPR is reporting nonstop. You can listen in here: [Live Stream | WBUR](Radio | WBUR)

The timing, the location, and the multiple blasts…no accident. This was terrorism.

People familiar with racing confirm MWC’s observation. A large number of runners would be near the finish line at the 4-hour mark.

Agree with MOWC. They run in waves. There would plenty of runners on the course at 4:09.

MOWC, I don’t know you, but thought of you immediately from your posts on running; I figured you had friends running, if you weren’t running yourself.

This must feel very close to home for you-these are “your people.”

:(

FAA has created a No Fly Zone over Boston. Bridges closed. Green Line Subway shut down. This is what these SOBs intended.

“It was not “almost at the end”. It was peak time for older age groups. Clock time 4:09 or so. I would have been around then!”

Me too… One of the last corrals to finish. BAA’s site is down

This is devastating.

Another tweet I saw on Boston.com blog:

WASHINGTON (AP) – Intelligence official: 2 more explosive devices found at Boston Marathon; being dismantled.

Are they saying where the unexploded devices were found? In backpacks, in manholes?

NBC reporter said it appears to still be very live scene. Police cars screaming by.

Embarrassing for the city/police/fire dept/government that they had /no/ idea this would happen.

S1 in Boston was NOT at Marathon this year, thank goodness. Was there last year. He has several frat brothers that ran in the race and all seem to be accounted for…one of his friends literally left that very area of the explosion ONE minute earlier.

Fatalities is horrendous. People losing limbs horrifying. He is very somber today.

Having your leg blow off is terrible and horrible but I suspect being a runner it would be worse if that’s possible.

From the video, it looked like there were plenty of people still running.

Praying for all

One doctor who assisted the wounded described the injuries as “war zone wounds”. 2 dead, 23 injured so far. ABC also reports other unexploded devices were found.

My D was hanging around the finish zone last year…

CSIHSIS, I don’t think it’s possible to anticipate or prevent every act of evil or terrorism. I am sure “embarrassment” is not the biggest concern of anyone in Boston right now.

What a horrific tragedy all around. My thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones.

abc has shown the same clip at least three times, where you can clearly see a young man with his legs blown off amidst the chaos, and there was another clip of him in a wheelchair, but then it goes blank. so somebody finally noticed what was in the shot.

fbi says it was bombs, and they 've found two more.
