<p>The finish line area was swept earlier that morning with bomb-sniffing dogs, probably more than once. Also there were many police around. An unattended bag left for too long would have been noticed.</p>
<p>Looking at the pictures, white-hat-guy looks more like an average American dude. Grey hat guy, with his dress shoes and white v-neck t-shirt under an open jacket, looks more foreign - perhaps European? My son was told when he studied abroad in Europe that if he wanted to blend in he shouldn’t wear sneakers and jeans, he should wear khakis and some other type of shoe. Perhaps the baseball hat was all the “Americanizing” grey hat guy could muster. Or maybe he wanted to look slightly foreign to throw people off… being foreign wouldn’t make you stand out at the Boston Marathon.</p>
<p>That new photo is excellent. I could see them processing it and getting real good images.</p>

<p>BunsenBurner - This may be premature but some of the comments on that article suggest that this is related to the robbery of a 7/11 on campus. My undergraduate campus once had a similar lockdown because an armed off-campus robber decided to run to campus.</p>
