Bombing hits BostonMarathon

Wow, I’m listening to CNN coverage, and no one affiliated with that network is saying anything about one of the suspects having been shot, much less dead. They aren’t mentioning anything about the Brown University student missing since March, or the idea that he has now been identified/apprehended as one of the two suspects. However, from where I’m sitting, the photo Lindz linked to more than plausibly looks like the white hatted suspect.

Just saw footage on CNN of a suspect being put into a police car. He didn’t appear to be wounded, certainly not very badly.

Yes, they have 2 suspects. Rumored ID of white hat suspect (suspect #2) is missing Brown student Sunil Tripathi.

Rumored ID of 1st suspect is Mike Mulugeta. Also rumored is that suspect #1 is dead. This makes sense as main stream news is now reporting only one suspect in custody.

Twitter has been burning up with real time reporting of what’s been going on.

Also rumored to have found a pressure cooker.

Twitter was amazing. It had a live feed of everything going on while mainstream news had nothing. They even had links to police scanners throughout the whole thing.

just heard on NBC news, the guy on the ground is actually NOT a suspect, just someone in wrong place, wrong time.

Because reputable press needs some confirmation, twitter doesn’t…

And Twitter is everywhere. Limited newspaper staffs aren’t.

I don’t see the resemblance at all. Cheeks, chin look very different to me. Time will tell…

Yes, CNN’s Jake Tapper has been saying that they’re being careful not to report unconfirmed information. Certainly, CNN would be more vulnerable to fierce condemnation from reporting false information than the netizens of Twitter. Anybody can tweet anything. Some tweets may be spot on, others not so much. I’m sure the major news outlets have been hearing the same twitter noise, and are scrambling to confirm or disregard the details being reported there.

It seems that the reputable news outlets cannot announce the names of the suspects like they did on Twitter because it repercussion could be drastic if they get it wrong.

Here is a side by side comparison of suspect #2 and Sunil.

Right after he went missing, explosives were found near Brown University and destroyed in a controlled detonation. No one had been found behind it. The location is halfway between Brown and Boston.

Resemblance is very strong. He’s been missing from Brown for a couple of weeks so I’m sure his hair grew longer/curlier and more like the picture of “white hat–suspect 2”.

Very late Thursday, the FBI released more photos of the Marathon bombing suspects. Their faces are much clearer in these new ones.

Police scanner talking about an external house by house sweep going on.

Massachusetts State Police just told Watertown residents not to answer their doors except for identified law enforcement, and to stay away from their windows. One suspect is apparently still on the loose.

Argh, I hate it when news breaks late at night. I should have been in bed two hours ago, but I can’t tear myself away!

The side-by-side photos of the white hatted suspect, and Sunil Tripathi still bear a strong resemblance to me.

Fox 25 is confirming that suspect #1 is dead at Beth Israel Hospital.

CNN has just reported that there is going to be a “controlled detonation” in Watertown shortly. A suspicious package, briefcase, etc., has been found, and they will be destroying it just to be cautious, apparently.

The poor naked guy had nothing to do with any of this, or the guy spread-eagled on the ground. Imagine how hard their hearts were pounding.

ttparent, there must be 3 suspects then. There’s footage of one being loaded into a police car, and the Mass State Police just a few minutes ago issued a warning to Watertown residents, which would mean that another is still at large.
