Bombing hits BostonMarathon

Wait, what? Somebody is calling the media reckless and negligent? In other news, the sun will come out tomorrow.

So what?? No one was forcing him to stay in American. His parents left returning to the Chencun area. He could have returned with them.

I’m not surprised, poet. I just think it should not be spread when at all possible.

I just saw the police official release of the events the led to the death of the older brother. A couple of interesting facts. The brothers did not rob the 7-11, someone else robbed 7-11. Then it said that no explosives were found at the home on Norfolk street, no controlled detonation was needed, and it should not have been announced earlier.

I read earlier today that there was blood at the firefight scene that might indicate the 19 year old was wounded. Anyone heard any more on that?

One report was that the brothers had fired 200 rounds. I have no idea if the return fire was as heavy. It is surmise, but I wonder if the authorities would like to take someone alive.

Oh, I know Romani, I was just being very unclever in an attempt to be clever. I agree with you.

ETA: 07, the Docs at the hospital said the first terrorist had too many bulletholes to count.

Wait, someone else robbed a 7-11 and how was that connected with these two suspects (one dead and one being hunted)? I’m sorry, this is getting ever more confusing.

The live video we saw on the computer of the shooting, H counted 20+ shots he heard in the video, not that many, many more that were reported. Perhaps there were shots that went off before the video and/or after? Seems like there is a lot of confusion and misinformation all over the place. The media is fanning it and I think it’s best not to jump to conclusions until the official reports are released.

Sorry, poet. I think I’m just being overly sensitive. It upsets me when innocent people are brought in from both sides.

Stepping away from this now. Gotta recharge =)

This suspect is a student, a current student at UMass, Dartmouth, living in a dorm room there. I would guess that the police have searched his dorm room and confiscated all of his things. Not much info about that.

I think we’ll probably get more info when this is over. They need to hold stuff back and they need to spend their energy on drawing conclusions from the information that might lead to capture, rather than relaying every detail immediately.

I wonder where his home was when not at the dorms.

I think it was that Norfolk St address in Cambridge that they’ve been at all day. I think they said that was the address of both of the brothers.

I wouldn’t be surprised if someone in the chain of people passing information along to the media (someone in a police department, someone in a media organization) made an error in the information or made an incorrect inference or conclusion when passing it along, sort of like that game of “telephone”. The media may be so hungry for any possible information that it may latch on to incorrect information or rumors too easily, so that what it is saying may not be correct.

They’ve lifted the stay-inside order but have not caught the suspect.

I think the ascribing a sociopath with “dead eyes,” may mostly be “after the fact,” meaning after you know they have committed something awful. In everyday life, it probably isn’t apparent, other than perhaps as a “bad photo.”

That’s one of the reasons sociopaths are so scary–they walk among all of us and can’t easily be detected. They blend in well and appear to be “normal,” until something happens to set them apart.

The older brother was apparently married and had a child. For most people, that would imply some sort of a connected, hopefully loving relationship rather than a loner. There was a charge of domestic violence against the older brother and he appears to have gone back to Russia/Chechnia for 6 months prior to this with no info about that trip being publicized.

The younger brother was said to have friends and be involved in HS and college.

I’m not seeing a loner pattern here.

I suspect many folks in the area will likely continue to “shelter in place,” until Suspect #2 is found, even though there was a lifting of the “stay indoors order.” I suspect I would, unless I urgently needed to go somewhere.

Just found out they did indeed search my husband’s parents’ home (where he grew up). We are not exactly happy for Watertown to be on the map in this manner.

Somehow the NYTimes got hold of his UMass transcript, and D wasn’t doing very well.

A reason for him to be depressed anyway.

failing in college could be a reason to be depressed, even angry, but could also be the result of being involved in something taking more of his energy and focus than college. also interesting that the bombers’ father believed his son was in medical school. Could be that the son made himself sound much more successful than he was, even hoped to go to med school and was disappointed at his failure in school…

Yea, don’t think doing bad in school leads to being a terrorist - more like the other way around.

Also, gun shots heard just now.

Could be ending soon - not well for him :(.
