Bombing hits BostonMarathon

They were just a fire and forget missile. Any terrorist organization likely had no need to keep them alive. They did nothing significant in regards to the death toll or a political statement.

There will be many (both prisoners and officers) in prison who will be angry with the suspect and be sure that he knows of their anger, regardless of what the suspect’s final sentence is, IF he stays healthy enough to have a trial and even be sentenced. I sure hope he is able to provide information about the backers and organizers who enabled all of this violence.

Could be that they were supposed to suicide after they completed their mission, perhaps taking more victims when officers tried to apprehend them, which would explain why they were not given any resources to escape. Maybe they decided they didn’t want to die and went off script when push came to shove and they were supposed to end their own lives.

We in the US are not so accustomed to suicide bombers and that whole paradigm, but it seems to be something embraced by some cultures, possibly including the suspects, at least originally.

I’m guessing that getting shot multiple times and then run over by your brother hopping in a car and leaving you for dead would probably be pretty painful…

However, it looks like they were intending to plant bombs and escape without being caught, similar to the Kaczynski, McVeigh, and Shahzad, rather than die in the explosions like actual suicide bombers.

Suicide bombs are only useful if you can get a large amount of casualties generally. There was really no case for that here because there was no close-quarters engagement of a significant number.

As such it made more sense for them to try to spread general discord.

I read that at least one of the Boston hospitals called in Israelis for consultations on treating victims from a terrorist attack. Perhaps we’ll call them in for consultations on how to prevent these things in the future.

@BCEagle Like mandatory military services for ALL males and females? Do you really want that?

@soccerguy - Sad so many Americans are so ignorant about world geography.

Actually yeah… in some form of the military having a 2 year requirement like Australia does for some of their schools and a lot of others do? That’d be quite useful and build some maturity.

What do you have against military service?

I have nothing against military service but I can’t see the majority of the US backing mandatory service nor for both sexes. I just can’t see that happening.

Honestly, I’d like to see some mandatory service, military or some other capacity in exchange for free college education. Would help the country and get rid of loan problems.

I think that the Israelis could come up with a few suggestions that don’t include mandatory military service.

The US military does not need or want a lot of short term unwilling draftees. Any type of service (military or otherwise) would have to come with a training component so that the person can do a useful job (note that the Peace Corps wants skilled and educated volunteers, as do many private charitable organizations), so that would cost money for the relatively short term of enlistment, and the training may not necessarily be what the person could or want to put to use afterward.

Israel’s military situation* requires more soldiers per capita than the US, so its military can absorb the enlistees from mandatory national service (most of which is military, though only about half of the appropriate-age population actually serves any type of national service, due to various exemptions, some of which are a hot topic in Israeli politics).

*Of course, there can be endless arguments about how much this need for a lot of military is self-inflicted due to various government policies…

Anyhoo… back to the topic.

The homeowner who called 911. Not brave. Crazy. It’s NOT an admirable thing when civilians disregard authorities’ instructions in these situations. The suspect might have blown the guy’s head off when he pulled back that tarp.

^ I agree LasMa, he was lucky the suspect didn’t kill him, it certainly could have gone very differently, the suspect could have held him as a hostage. not smart.

heard the bombers’ father state that he plans to come to the U.S. to see his son, wondering if there would be any restrictions to his traveling here, or to his visiting with his son?

Terrorists don’t have the right to receive visitors to my knowledge. Primarily because terrorists are usually killed, hidden away, or forgot about in deep cells.

I am hopeful he survives, I am hopeful people will not take to exercise the worst that is in us…
He is only 19, how many of us have kids similar age…

It doesn’t matter if he was 16. He knowingly took part in a murder, a manslaughter (ran over his brother), took part in conspiracy against the United States of America, made conspiracy to commit terrorism, then committed terrorism, blew up 3 people as well as a kid, injured over 170 more people, took part in knowingly abetting a confirmed terrorist, shot at police, had intention to shoot a hostage, took part in taking a hostage, committed vehicular theft, breached private property, and so on and so forth.

He’s a terrorist, it doesn’t matter his age. There is no coming back from treason. He COMMITTED TREASON against the United States and its people. What more do you want to convict him of?

You can use all caps as much as you like, but I think you need to look up the legal definition of treason.

Otherwise, you’re right.
