Bombing hits BostonMarathon

Thanks…

“I believe so from listening to the scanner audio. But I can listen to it again overnight to give you the time when they had the perimeter established. The audio is only 41 minutes and includes the time of the firefight. There was much less chatter after the perimeter was set up.”

You believe all the information they used to determine where to set the perimeter up and the decisions about where to search was broadcast over police scanners? Imo, I think that is quite presumptuous.

But I am sure you think you have a better handle on the situation than the LE that were on the ground. rolling eyes

Isn’t the idea, in any search, that you set an initial focus area, later review to possibly expand? How big do you feel the search area should have been, what did you know that night which would lead you to act differently, that night? Don’t suppose there was a trail of blood (Deveaux said blood in the car.)

UCB–you make valid points, I completely agree we need to understand more fully and stated this as well. What concerned me is including in that statement (Zakaria) was what do we need to do differently as a country so as to not alienate Muslim youth. To me this implies some responsibility, but maybe not.

I listened to it last night. They listed the streets of the cordon.

We have a lot of the facts right now so yes, we do have a better handle on what happened than LE on the ground had.

I thought that your husband said that I didn’t know what I’m talking about and that you shouldn’t listen to me. Given the audio evidence, it seems like your husband doesn’t know what he’s talking about. You said that he’s a communications director, right?

People, please. Law enforcement did their best with the information they had AT THE TIME. To suggest otherwise is to ascribe some ill-intent or negligence on their part. Is that really what you are trying to suggest? What would be their motivation to give this case anything less than the highest attention from the best leadership and the most well-trained teams to track down two people suspected of carrying out an unprecedented, horrific attack on innocent people?

Sure. The problem was the initial focus area. If they got the focus area right, there would have been no need to expand. Why would you put the focus where the firefight was and not where the SUV was found?

The size of the search area was huge but the focus was off considerably. I posted the addresses of the firefight, location of the SUV and where the suspect was found. Look them up on Google Earth and everything becomes obvious.

From what I can tell, nobody is blaming the local police. The complaints are with the FBI and DHS. There was one police officer on the scanner that did suggest the right course of action but he was ignored.

I don’t think that anyone is implying that there’s any kind of coverup, conspiracy, etc. The police officers are heroes for putting their lives on the line to catch this suspect. Xiggi originally started this by being surprised at the level of congratulations and back-slapping over the job that overall LE did and that there were a bunch of confusing and unsettled issues. I thought that he was just being Xiggi but it turned out that he has valid points.

“I listened to it last night. They listed the streets of the cordon.”

So what? That doesn’t tell you what the information they had which lead them to cordon off that area.

What my husband said about the bandwidth has nothing to do with this. In all likelihood, I didn’t explain well enough to him what you were talking about. And regardless of how it was broadcast, it was crystal clear and without limitation, so your suggestion that somehow the necessary info didn’t get the cops about the SUV didn’t occur.

And again, it is obvious you believe you know more than the LE on the ground. I find that to be the height of arrogance.

At this point in time, all we can say is that the authorities have one of the SUSPECTS that they wanted for the bombing at the Boston Marathon. Why they wanted those brothers is not yet clear to me, anyways. I don’t know precisely what they have on film or have witnesses seeing what the two were doing there. One guy is dead, the other unable to speak and in serious condition. Until the full story comes out, that’s all any of truly know, unless anyone has more definitive info than this.

I’ll take it on faith that the authorities have very good reason and evidence that those are the two who did the explosives there, for now. But I also support our judicial system, and until the whole thing comes out in a court of law, that young man is considered interest… Under suspicion for things that make him too dangerous to release even if he could go anywhere. Unfortunate indeed that he can’t talk. I’m more concerned about what he has to say, however, than throwing the death penalty and the whole book at him, at this point in time.

Neil Diamond sounded so good at Fenway Park.

That was a wonderful and kind gesture of Neil Diamond. His voice still sounds rich and fine.

At 5:15 pm or thereabouts when the police had the big press conference announcing that they were pulling out and giving up. At the presser, the guv announced the subway and buses would start running immediately. People could go outside. And, the only extra law enforcement in Watertown would be 10 state patrol cruisers patrolling neighborhoods.

The boat incident began within about 30 minutes.

On dogs, they had canine units all over the place that night. I don’t know if they were tracking dogs or bomb sniffing dogs (or if there is even a difference).

The blood they found “in a house” was at 89 Dexter (the corner of Dexter and Fairfield), several blocks in the other direction from the original shoot out. They sent full SWAT teams to search that apartment building at least twice, maybe three times during the early morning hours. IMO, the repeated interest in that house was a big reason (or indication) the search area was in the wrong place. That house had absolutely nothing to do with the terrorists – unless there were more than two in the shootout and one still unaccounted for…

It is illogical to think that islamic terrorist #2 wandered around all day, only finding the boat after lunch. No way. He had to do have immediately made it south across Walnut (after cutting through from Spruce). He could have spent some time undetected in that maze of parking lots, but I doubt it. I suspect that he was in boat before dawn. Well before dawn (I’m thinking like 3 am-ish), local TV news live shot showed dozens of police vehicles in a line streaming up Walnut from School Street.

BTW, the heat seeking helicopters were State Police helicopters. They also had military Blackhawks in use.

I really just want to know how white terrorist #2 didn’t bleed out. Last I heard, the shots he sustained were from the very early morning shoot out. I haven’t been following that closely though.

I’m really f*ing sick of conspiracy theories. I used to find them funny and interesting. Now, they just make me sick. I’m so sick of people calling the victims “actors” and saying this is all a government plot to take over. If you really, truly believe that, why not just leave the country? Who would EVER want to live under a regime like that if they were aware of what was really going on?

Gosh Idad, why didn’t you call 911 with all the info you had that they were way off base and tell them they were looking in the wrong the location?

Romani, that is what I think: no one forced permanent residency or US citizenship upon them. There are many honest, hard working people who love this country as their second home and would have gladly taken their place in line.

Here’s the link to the pre-dawn press briefing. This was the first press briefing. It took place after Islamic Jihadist #1 had been pronounced dead and before dawn. If memory serves, this would have been sometime between 3:00 am and 4:00 am.

[Boston Police Briefing - Watertown / Boston On Lockdown Suspect #2 Armed & Dangerous - YouTube](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vycse-NrHgw)

At the end of the briefing, the Watertown police chief says the cordon/search area is focused on East Watertown (“Dexter… Laurel… School Streets”). East Watertown is the area east of School Street. All of the scanner traffic, as teams moved up and down streets, blocking off streets at both ends, and calling in progress was focused in this area from that point forward.

[Boston Police Briefing - Watertown / Boston On Lockdown Suspect #2 Armed & Dangerous - YouTube](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vycse-NrHgw)

The wounded Isamic Jihadist #2 was found in the boat less that 2/10ths of a mile or about 1000 feet (as the crow flies) from where the SUV was abandoned (reported as 98 Spruce on the scanner traffic).

Here’s a google map of the direct line route from the abandoned SUV and the boat:

gmap-pedometer.com

The original firefight was at 61 Laurel St. just east of the intersection of Laurel and Dexter. The perp ran over his brother and then drove west on Laurel, across School where it turns into Spruce, and abandoned the car somewhere between 98 Spruce and the intersection of Lincoln.

The house with the boat was outside the search area and no police had been on that street or gone door to door there.

That’s nice, Idad. But if you could tell from all the information you were gathering that the police were looking in the wrong place, why didn’t you call 911 and tell them?

Wow, that’s interesting, IDad. What street was the perimeter in that area? Walnut?

I never knew where the SUV was abandoned. I started listening to the scanner shortly after the period that BC EAGLE posted and no news outlet that I can find has ever reported the location where the Mercedes SUV was abandoned.

I had Google maps open and plugged in every location mentioned on the scanner that night, just to get oriented. There were two types of activity. There were organized search teams sealing off both ends of blocks and conducing house to house sweeps and there were teams sent to investigate reports of suspicious noises and stuff – like the teams sent to 89 Dexter.
