Boston College Class of 2028 Official Thread

Hope this answers everyone’s admission rate question.

Regarding GPA’s - my children went to a HS that does not provide GPA’s to colleges. They provide a “school profile” that gives the college lots of info on the program of study and the performance of the student body. Kids from this school do very well in the admissions process so it does not hurt them. It is my understanding that admissions folks are assigned territories and become familiar with the schools in those territories so they get a feel for the schools and understand that all GPAs are not created equal.

Congratulations to all the new Eagles. Mine will be graduating in a few short weeks. If you attend admitted student day this weekend, you will see her working there.

This is absolutely correct - BC is typically very familiar with the schools they are pulling candidates from. Our public HS in MA had 13 students attend BC from my daughter’s class of ~250.

Anybody else get a “survey” asking them if they would definitely attend if they are accepted off of the waitlist?

Not sure what the benefit is to BC of such a survey. My guess is that most everyone responds “yes”

I think that’ everyone who didn’t get a phone call on Tuesday or Wednesday received the survey on Tuesday.

How many times do you have to reaffirm that you want to go there? Getting kids’ hopes up just to collect more data to protect their yield rate … really souring on this whole process

Agree’d. And BC waitlists at least twice as many kids as they actually accept. They have already called those that they really want off the WL - told each of them that they were “one of a select group chosen” - and gave them until tonight at 11:59 to decide. Maybe there will be more calls if kids decline? Personally, I’m over it all. Best of luck though!

*as they actually accept from ED and RD

My guess is that between the time BC released RD decisions and now, things for some waitlisted applicants may have changed and BC is looking for a more definitive list to round out their class. BC waitlisted applicants may have come off a waitlist at another school and will go there. Or it is very possible that a waitlisted student fell in love with a school they were admitted to after attending an admitted student day and BC is now in their rear view mirror. I know that this is difficult to hear but being waitlisted is in most cases a denial and should be treated as such. The odds of coming off the waitlist at a school like BC are very, very slim. To avoid disappointment and getting their hopes up students should send a LOCI if they choose to but then forget about all waitlists and go all in on a school that accepted them.

Solid advice, but then BC reaches out with a survey asking my D if she would attend if accepted off of the waitlist and gives her a little false hope. Very tone deaf IMO

And, they sent it to everyone on the waitlist that they didn’t already call yesterday or the day before :woman_facepalming:t2: Last year, there was a third “let us keep your false hope alive” email sent shortly before they shut down the waitlist entirely.

And, I bet your daughter has already picked an amazing school!…but still…that little flicker of false hope :woman_facepalming:t2:

Hello,
I was admitted off of the waitlist yesterday and now I am enrolled. I was notified at ~5:00 PM through an email saying that I had a status update to my application (no phone call or communication from my guidance counselor).

Congrats - that’s great news!

Would you mind sharing your stats?

Anyone knows what’s going on with waitlist?

Have heard nothing. Do they put out an official communication when they close down the waitlist?

yes. My understanding is that they will email that there is an update to the application and then there will be a letter stating the waitlist is closed. If that hasn’t been received, then the waitlist is still open.

A 5.0 weighted is theoretically possible… if ALL the classes used for the GPA calculation are AP or IB classes and ALL the grades in those classes are A’s. I would be curious about the weighting methodology of anyone reporting anything over 4.6

Most common nationally seems to be a 5 for an A in AP and a 4.5 for an A in an honors class. But every university does their own calculation, some include core classes only.

Still no word as to whether or not this waitlist is closed?

Moved on - withdrew from waitlist. Good luck to all!
