Boston College Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

Hi! How did she find out the waitlist decision from BC if she got into her ED2? I thought you were supposed to pull out all your other applications? Do you not have to do that for ED2?

Super long story. Her ED2 did not give her the money the net price calc had her at, she asked for more money based on other offers and tried to appeal based off of info we had and had saved from net price calc. They said sorry that was just an estimate we of course can’t honor the NC calc. She withdrew her app. very very sadly. Late in march, early April they reached back out with another scholarship to apply for. That scholarship gave her enough to say yes and reinstate. The whole ride last year was like this roller coaster, but I think you get where you need to be. We used the net price calc for every college she applied to, most were spot on, this one for whatever reason and nobody could answer that, was way off. I called FA and spoke to them at length trying to understand what went wrong.

So no normally, you accept the ED2 and you are done.

We r in a similar decision boat. ED2 elsewhere or stay the course with BC given the deferral to RD. Are there any encouraging stories out there where a deferral led to acceptance in RD?

Wow! That’s a big rollercoaster but so glad it all worked out!! Congrats!

Thank you, we had every emotion possible. When she got that scholarship in April and it was like 2 weeks before deposits are due we cried. We still get emotional about it.

Then we found out after May 1st some schools are still trying to woo and entice you with even more offers. That’s a whole other conversation. Lol Good luck to your student if they’re applying this year. Last year we kept hearing “ record numbers applied” and “ more competitive than any other class” I hope that’s died down a bit.

Hang in there! Last year, my son was deferred from ED 1 at BC. We really believed that was likely the end of the road because admission rates after deferral are low. He decided to ED2 to Villanova. Ended up getting waitlisted at Villanova (for ED2, Nova does not defer to Regular decision cycle). He wrote a LOIC to BC. It was his first choice all along.
He got accepted to BC during regular decision. It was a total rollercoaster of emotions last winter and all the waiting was brutal. Now, he is a very grateful and happy first year student at BC!

any chance you could share his stats? thanks

My daughter applied RD before November 1 so as to qualify for Gabelli Scholarship and she got an email stating that they got her email and it was under review for admission and Gabelli. I know this is a stupid question but is that a standard email that everyone gets? I am trying to read tea leaves.

I’m curious too. He applied to the business school

@Luvmykids1

I assume by your response that you are in the same situation? RD application and got the same response? I am curious because I am alum and they don’t look favorably on legacy RD applications. My daughter applied CSOM as well(CSOM really carries the entire school, I was A&S). Best of luck.

Thought people might want a little intel. The few kids at my NE prep school (private not boarding) who ED’d didn’t do that well at BC this year. Mostly deferrals. Seems tougher than prior years maybe, but I’m not a BC expert and didn’t apply. These aren’t applicants with crazy stats though so some were clear reaches. From what I heard about kids at area schools, legacies did far better than non. But that seems to be consistent with Catholic schools generally. Did ED applicants at BC go up this year bc it seems like acceptance rate may be lower based on very few datapoints?

@GRR The only info I have is completely anecdotal. From my daughter’s non catholic DC area private I have heard of 1 girl get accepted ED. We are by no means a feeder but last year girls that were middle of the pack(low 90s and SATs under 1450) applied ED and did well and I think the school sent 4 girls there with a high yield. I think people have figured out that BC becomes nearly impossible in RD so it would not surprise me to see a spike in ED and ED2 apps. They will also reject “high stats” kids in RD and I feel like a “high stats” WL is BC telling you they want to know you are top choice. They do not like being the Ivy back up plan.

Yes, my son got the same e-mail and he also applied RD before Nov 1

Is your son applying to the business school too?

Yes same situation

Can you please explain what you mean by CSOM carries the entire school? Thank you.

@GRR my DD goes to a private school that usually has 2-4 kids every year go to BC. My DD was deferred. ED has good success at our school, assuming they are generally strong candidates. Min GPA accepted in past was 3.95. This year, no one was accepted in ED1. I was told 4-6 were planning on applying ED back in mid Oct. Our advisor said historically our school gets accepts (7 out of 10 ED submissions from what I can see in Maia from last 3 yrs) or rejected. My DDs deferral was not predicted and our advisor is not sure what to make of it. Anecdotally without further data, it sounds like BC may have had more students apply ED this year?

@tommy001 CSOM is a top 10 undergrad business school with very good placement in banking, consulting and mutual fund business and it is more highly regarded than A&S. I think the school of Ed and Nursing are good as well. Engineering is brand new and is not certified. A&S is good for pre professional.
