This is a stupid question but honestly I feel like I’m getting different answers. Does anyone know what a 98 weighted gpa translates to? Some sites say 4.0 some say lower.
It depends on the conversion you use. The most basic conversion is “any A is worth 4.0 points.” Using that conversion, a 98 average is a 4.0.
If you use the conversion where different values of a have different point values it could be slightly less than a 4.0 but it depends on the exact conversion used. I have seen some that center a 4.0 on 95 (so a 100 is 4.3 and a 90 is 3.7). But I have also seen others that call a 100 a 4.0 and go down from there.
Without other information, I would use the basic assumption that a 98 is a 4.0
Thank you. I wish our school would assist with this. They don’t rank either so it makes providing stats difficult. We are trying to determine if he has a chance with ED 2 with Boston. He’s top 10% and taken the most rigorous classes and lots of leadership ECs but with admissions it’s so unpredictable.
Sorry to hear. Sounds like a theme maybe. Anecdotally, I have heard of several boys getting in, but fewer girls. But presumably applicants are about 60/40 female at most schools
Yes, he applied to the business school. Fingers crossed, he loved the campus and vibe of BC overall and Carroll is top program but no Catholic connection, high school or otherwise
All the best to her for RD. I would not be surprised to see a much higher ED applicant number. At the tour they were crystal clear about “loving anyone who applied ED”
My daughter was deferred from MCAS. Weighted GPA 3.96, 7 AP’s & 2 honors, test optional, good EC’s, catholic, legacy from CSOM. At private school in CA. We are pretty disappointed.
My son was deferred last year from ED 2 and accepted regular decision (CSOM). He did submit a letter of continued interest reminding them that BC was his still his first choice and also had an additional letter of recommendation sent from his AP BC Calc teacher. Don’t give up hope. A deferral isn’t the same as a rejection- we are proof of that. He’s a freshman there now and couldn’t be happier!!
I believe it is standard. D21 got that email fall 2020 and did not make it any further for Gabelli (but did get in RD and got 4yrs housing which is based on merit). At the time she got that email it seemed everyone who applied by deadline got the same.
@2Devils Thanks for the info and it is what I expected. Congrats to your D, BC is a great school/environment and 4 years of housing is a rarity. We are hoping to make finalist if not just to find out acceptance in early January. We hear SCEA on Thursday and need to see if we have to move an application to ED2 if deferred or denied at choice 1.
Good luck to yours! Mine didnt pick BC but it was nice to have the option!
great options when you are turning down BC. I have heard anecdotally that one of the “top” DC area private schools got shut out from BC ED so it looks like the trend of selectivity is escalating even more.
Wow. Our school still gets a couple in RD each year, though they continue to commonly pick somewhere else, and ED just depends who applies.
yes it was surprising when I hear but I suspect it was not the best candidates. Our school had 5/9 get in and 4 attend. Some RD some ED. High stats got in as well as 1450 ish SATs.
Boston suburb here. We also were seeing 1-2 kids per private school gain acceptances in ED1. Felt like most privates in the area were inline . I personally have Heard of no kids from local public schools. Was feeling they
Pulled back a lot this year…. Until I heard this : A small parochial girls high school’s, ( class size around 80) in Boston area gained 8 acceptances ED1 supposedly out of 8 applicants.
DD was accepted ED1. Public High School in NY. 3.96 weighted GPA. 6AP’s 10 honors. Strong essays, EC & volunteer work. Test optional. Parent alum and sibling ‘26🦅 . Good luck to those deferred, applying ED should help going into RD round with strong LOCI stating BC still top choice!
While BC def does value its ED applicants and holistic admissions, it seems a little flip to dismiss students with a 1450 as anything other than “high stats.” That score places a student in the 97th percentile nationwide. Before the test-optional policy, that score was towards the top of BC’s middle 50%.
@soctmom I did not mean to dismiss 1450(it’s a great score), but it is the reality of applying to highly selective schools in this environment. The landscape is brutal right now and it seems like kids need to be 'perfect" to get in to these “top” schools. I have heard of friend’s kids getting in to BC with lower range scores or test optional for what it’s worth. It’s not like when I applied and a 1450 would get you the Tip Oneil scholarship.
Met with our school college advisor today. Another theory of lower ED acceptance this year from our private high school is that BC took higher numbers for Questbridge due to Supreme Court ruling of no more affirmative action. I wonder if ED2 will fair better?
That is an interesting thought. I wonder how it will impact my URM, Legacy RD child. So many variables in this “new” environment but if your hypothesis is correct ED2 and RD will be better outcomes for the masses I would guess.
