Boston College Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

What is questbridge?

"Founded in 1994, QuestBridge is a national nonprofit based in Palo Alto, California that connects the nation’s most exceptional, low-income youth with leading colleges and opportunities. By working with these students — beginning in high school through college to their first job —QuestBridge aims to increase the percentage of talented low-income students attending the nation’s best colleges and to support them to achieve success in their careers and communities. "

I really didn’t know what it was either. I had heard it mentioned but never really researched it.

Questbridge students have a different application process. Universities partner with the program to recruit students from less privileged backgrounds.

And I think it works like a Matching process

My son was accepted ED1 to the CSOM and received 4 years of housing. Does anyone know if getting 4 years of housing indicates he is a potential scholarship candidate? Thank you!

Congrats! Maybe.

Gabelli scholarship candidates/winners are truly outstanding students, who could really go to any Ivy schools with perfect or near perfect test scores and GPAs, and other accomplishments.

I have not seen the actual stats, but my guess is that there should be more from early regular decision applicants than from ED applicants.

Good luck!

Makes sense and that is the balance between ED and RD. I assume BC will want to entice students to become part of the community through Gabelli and other scholarships (I don’t think there are any others ?) and an ED person has already committed so they (BC) does not need to dangle any more carrots - just my opinion

We had a call with our counselor today and she did in fact confirm this at BC and it is a recurring theme at other schools as well. BC went from 90 t0 115 QB scholars. 30% of class was accepted ED and they expect another 30% in ED2. The unpredictability and increased applications at highly selective is still increasing immensely.

Thank you! Makes sense
but selfishly I hope BC does consider an ED student for a scholarship!

Call the admissions dept. I was told everyone in before nov1 qualifies even ED. But I would assume you would have needed to be accepted in the Ed process.

I saw somewhere BC accepted 960/2800 ED1 applications. If that holds it’s closer to 40% of the Class of 2028 (960/2400).

That seems hard to believe.

Here is a link to the reported numbers.

I applied with a slightly higher GPA but the same circumstances as your daughter, including legacy. I was deferred as well. I share the disappointment

I was surprised the acceptance rate was that high for BC. My friends who applied were mostly deferred.

Thought I would share this in case it helps anyone at all:
My daughter was recently accepted to MCAS through ED 1. Stats were 3.94 W, 34 ACT (submitted), 7 APs and 3 honors. She had very strong ECs, LORs, and essays. Activities were all service/volunteer based or related to her major, and had an excellent extra LOR from the leader of a foundation she worked closely with. We come from a private Jesuit school in Chicago that historically sends a good amount of kids to BC, last year was 18 in total out of a class of 350. This year 12 applied ED 1 and 4 were accepted with 2 deferred. College counselors told the 2 deferred students the best thing they could do was get at least a 4.0 this semester and write a strong LOCI.

I am not sure of the numbers exactly, I am just repeating what our counselor told us. My daughter has decided not to apply ED2 so she is a likely reject at this point. Maybe a WL and we can get lucky.

Ours too.

Good luck. I wish it was higher up in the pecking order for my daughter. It was such a great experience for me.

Good luck to you too. I wish it was too for mine but it’s their decision.
