Boston College Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

Thanks for sharing and congratulations to your daughter. My son has applied RD but applied by Nov 1 to be eligible for any scholarships (yes, we know there are not too many merit scholarships). I was wondering if a LOCI would be of any value in his case, just to reconfirm that BC is top of mind after the EA/ED rounds, he has not applied ED anywhere.

BC does not consider “demonstrated interest” but I can confirm hearing from the admissions director that they look at it. My understanding is that you are permitted to switch the application from RD to ED2 after submission.

Unless you switch to ED2 it might be hard to say in a loci that Boston is her top choice.

For what it is worth - My son got the Gabelli (he is a current student) and he applied ED. You would think some schools would say hey this kid is already coming here and we don’t need to dangle this, but BC is not like other schools. He also wasn’t the only ED applicant in his class to get the Gabelli(I am not sure the exact number). I am saying this very conversationally - he probably could have gone to any IVY or Northwestern, Georgetown, ND, VANDY, UVA etc.(and he saw them all) - and when it came time to decide whether or not he wanted to go ED - he just said to me - Dad - there is nothing about BC that I don’t like and he has never looked back. He has embraced everything BC has thrown his way and I couldn’t be more happy for him. I think they saw him as an outlier so to speak - the kid that could have pretty much gone where he wanted, but chose BC. Here is what I have learned through all of this(I will have 4 in college next year) - there isn’t one school that is better or worse than another - there really isn’t. It really comes down to which school is the best fit for your child and Boston College - for him - has been a perfect match.

Super and wise child and wise words

Love this! So true!! My son is a sophomore and my daughter was just accepted ED 1. :eagle::eagle: Both of them always loved BC. My younger son (twin to my DD just accepted ED 1) never wanted BC, he’s going in a completely different direction. Maybe he wants to blaze his own trail separate from his siblings, but I also think it’s just not for him. Fit is so important!

Thank you for the post. Sounds like you have a great family!

My son was accepted ED1 for the CSOM with 4 years of guaranteed housing. It appears he may be in the running for a scholarship
my understanding is we will learn more by the end of January? Any further insights into how the scholarship process works would be appreciated.

I don’t think it is a stupid question. Our high school also grades on a 100 scale

I’d like to know too if my daughter will be in the running for Gabelli. I don’t think any other scholarship relates to her as she is not in an underrepresented minority. She was accepted to A&S with 4 years of guaranteed housing. The school is extremely expensive and my husband is nearing retirement.

Yes - I think in the middle of January he was notified that he would be in the interview process. The interview process was different for him because it was all on ZOOM due to Covid. They have the kids that interview come up to campus and meet with a whole bunch of people over 3 or 4 days. It was a pretty thorough process. I wish him the best of luck and please don’t hesitate to ask any other questions if he moves forward with not only that, but anything else related to BC. I have 2 other kids there as well.

BC, BU and Northeastern are all filling over half their freshman classes with ED applicants. This results in high freshman retention rates, 95%, 94% and 98% respectively. The schools get students who really want to be there, not those settling for their safety school.

I believe the ED admission rate is more important for increasing these schools’ yield rates (41% overall and 23% from RD if we assume close to 100% from ED for BC last year) while lowering acceptance rates (15% overall, 30% in ED, and 13% in RD for BC last year). Both will help schools’ prestige and ranking.

But if they increase the ED acceptance rate too much then there might be less number of RD applicants and also lower average test scores and GPA. And that is bad for their prestige and ranking. So, it is a trade-off.

Hello, will this continue on to be the ED2 thread as well as ED1?

We were trying to decide whether to ED2 or not. My daughter wrote a nice note to AO telling him that she could not because of cost but she loves BC. We just found out today that she has been accepted RD and is a Gabelli Scholars finalist. This would be amazing full circle moment for a proud alum.

Congratulations!!! What an accomplishment!!
I thought RD decisions come out in spring - is it different for Gabelli Scholars?

They announce the finalist for the Gabelli Scholars this week. If you are a finalist you also get your acceptance.

Thank you. We are very excited as BC is in her top three and she was deferred from #1.

Thats awesome, congratulations. My S24 loves BC and applied RD in time for the Nov 1 scholarship deadline. He has not received any Gabelli scholarship notification so BC is most likely off my list (not his !), not sure if it is worth it for us to pull it off if he is accepted in March.

Huge congratulations! What an amazing achievement and to be at your alumni school must be the greatest feeling ever!

Congrats!! That’s amazing! Was the notification sent via email, snail mail or portal update (or all of the above lol).
