I didn’t think they wanted to give Hester two wins in a row.
The winner gained a lot of confidence . I think that was the judges’ goal.

Am I the only one disappointed with this season? Both Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum said the series needed a new energy, as reason why they stepped away (or were made to step away.) But this season is just like all the previous ones minus the likable Heidi and the always touching Tim. So in fact, it’s worse
I don’t like Christian in this role as much as I thought I would. He doesn’t have the “presence” that Tim has.
Tim was so encouraging. Christian isn’t.
I’m listening to an audio book, written and read by Tim Gunn. Tim Gunn: The Natty Professor: A Master Class on Mentoring, Motivating, and Making It Work! While it was published in 2015, so much of why we love him on PR is due to his mentoring and teaching style. I simply adore listening to him tell “me” his point of view on being a mentor and teacher. He’s engaging and interested in his students and mentees. I’m loving the book. He discusses PR and its spinoffs, Under The Gunn and Guide to Style.
“This book is as smart and fashionable as Tim Gunn himself, and it’s teeming with surprising, moving, and often hilarious stories about teaching, learning, and life. I loved it!” Bette Midler.
I miss Heidi (despite,or maybe because of, her often questionable taste) and Tim very much. Karlie is utterly bland, which is a shame, since she’s actually a very interesting woman. Christian shows a subtle but real contempt for the designers he’s critiquing. Where Tim would be genuinely concerned about a design heading in the wrong direction, Christian just seems mildly disgusted. But Tim was an experienced teacher, so the mentoring role came easily to him. I’m hoping Christian finds his way as the season progresses. Maybe he should watch a few past seasons to see what Tim was able to bring to the table. And Maybe Karlie will allow her personality to come to the fore.
Bravo seems to have abandoned Lifetime’s inclination to emphasize backbiting and snottiness among the designers. I suppose it’s possible this is just a particularly sweet group, but I think it’s a producing/editing decision. They aren’t encouraging the designers to critique each other’s work during the talking heads segments, and they’re mostly editing out the hissy fits and emotional outbursts that have been inevitable in the shows pressure cooker environment and are surely occurring this season. The result is that the designers seem more civilized, but a little dull.
I’m really enjoying the new season. I really enjoyed Tim Gunn, but though he had moved away from giving design mentoring to becoming an emotional support. And don’t get me started on his picks for the “Tim Gunn Save”! Christian is definitely more aloof, but these contestants are grown-ups and should be able to get through the challenges without the handholding. I don’t miss Heidi and I think Karlie is doing fine. I think she knows much more about high fashion than Heidi ever did. But the best change of all is ditching Zac Posen - thank you Bravo!
I didn’t “exactly” understand this latest challenge, and I felt the ACTUAL challenge was working outside in sub 50* temperatures! I’ve yet to really connect with any one designer yet, but for me, that usually does come later. Overall I’m ok with the retooling of the show. I’m giving it time to find its groove and own style.
It’s kind of hard to switch from the all stars, who know what they are doing, to the beginners who still can’t sew as well as I could as a teenager. We’re really back to arts and crafts time. For the all stars, it was often hard to have someone eliminated when the garment was really gorgeous but for the ‘regulars’, I’d be happy if 2-3 went home every week, never to be seen again.
First of all, did anyone else think that rain over the model’s tent looked super fake?
How did Kovid not go home?? I like him as a person, but that outfit…really? I think the producers decided that he makes for better TV (which I felt the past seasons had been like). I also liked Hester’s outfit.
The show does seem a little more bland, but maybe they just need to “grow into” the show. It seems like they don’t show all the designers in every episode (until the runway). More than once, I was like “who is that?”
I want the show to be like the Christian days when avant garde was avant garde!
And I like Christian so far. And loved Tim Gunn - who couldn’t? He seems so genuinely kind.
I had real respect for Tim Gunn. He had been a teacher for years, and that showed.
I agree on this challenge, was it “make a look out of camping/outdoor survival gear” or “make a look out of these materials SUITABLE for camping/outdoor survival”. Because if the latter, people who made evening gowns out of bungee cords should not have been safe. Even the winner was confused on the challenge as she thought she was going home since she was the only one who made something useful for the environment.
The latter. I’m sure there were further details left on the cutting room floor, but “survival chic” made it in. Which possibly explains why Kovid lives to see another week;at least there was some measure of practicality involved.
Just now watching last week’s show. Christian is a jerk.
I’m very disappointed. I was expecting to like him.
Me, too. He was bullying the contestants for eating! In the same circumstances, Tim would have acknowledged the need for healthy eating to keep their strength up.
Tonight’s episode involves female video game characters. Here’s an interesting article from the Dallas News about the origin of this challenge.
I agree with the winner this week. I can’t believe his helper was so ME, ME, ME! He was nicer than I would have been. She’s been eliminated; it was his competition. Get over yourself, honey.
Missed last night’s show, but just saw the week before that (the mini-collection for the actress’ vacation challenge). How did Hester win? How did Bishme not win? His was the only one up there that looked classy and not like a bottle of pepto bismol. Ugh. Most of the runway was ugh. I thought the safe team should have won.
And what about Tessa’s rude comment right after she found out that Hester won? I had always liked Tessa, but that was uncalled for.
I feel like the season is like the last few where the judges (or producers) already know who hey want to win.
I think all of the designers should be forced to watch the Met Gala runway over and over. The gowns were soooo fabulous. The new kids need to see what shows well and what just fades away (Gwyneth Paltrow).
