Mine did receive an offer the evening of his interview. We had just gotten back into town and I had dropped him off at a STEM program he attends still in his suit. He called around 6:30 to say he had received his email. I wish they were all that way.
My son was in the first round of interviews (January 16 - 19). No, his interview date was not moved up; he would have had trouble accommodating a last minute interview schedule change (his calendar is pretty full – as it is, my head spins watching him come and go every day).
There were four or five days between his interview date and the early acceptance offer email he received. It certainly appears that the Brockman Foundation’s selection process is still evolving (and not just from year to year).
We did not expect the early acceptance email and were blown away by my son’s good fortune. BUT, it actually makes a lot of sense for Brockman Foundation to lock down some of the recipients before they start receiving and accepting offers from other scholarships/universities. Once a person commits to a school/scholarship, it becomes harder to change one’s trajectory because one starts to move on to the next phase (new student conferences, Fish camp, class selection, etc) instead of looking for a better option for schools/scholarships. As least, that appears to be what’s happening around here.
My son received his offer via email on 1/21 after that first weekend of interviews. He is committed and looking forward to Fall 2020. Good luck to everyone!
My son got offer a few hours after interview in this past Saturday. What a surprise! He also got invitation of phone interview from Brown Foundation originally scheduled in Friday afternoon, but since we would be on trip to Houston so it was postponed to 3 days later. Now Brockman asks reply within 7 days, does anybody know that if Brown would give a quick response like Brockman?
I’m guessing that they would not offer the scholarship during the interview, phone or otherwise. The reason is because there are different groups interviewing at the same time. I think the reason my son got an email that day is that they may have had time to get back together and discuss since they were there all day doing multiple interviews at a time.
My son said his was very flowing and conversational, but he finds adults easy to talk to. Another friend of his had a different experience and felt like his didn’t go as well. I haven’t had the heart to ask if he’s heard anything but really hope it went better than he thought it did.
I’m not sure of the dates, but is was moved up several weeks. He was offered the scholarship, and accepted without hesitation. We feel incredibly blessed for this opportunity. Good luck to all!
@bctnln1059 Thanks for your reply.
My son is so grateful to receive offers from both Brown and Brockman. He hasn’t received the detail award in mail from Brockman, and Brown’s offer letter has all numbers. It seems that Brockman covers more but Brown has more future opportunities (EnMed, for example, is very attractive). This is a hard choice. I appreciate very much to hear any advice or suggestion.
The EnMed program is very attractive! My son and I spoke with the Med School about it during our visit and it sounded very cool! Perfect fit for someone interested in engineering and medicine, with good options to specialize either way.
My son had interview last weekend of January, received Early acceptance that evening, which was surprising to us. He has accepted. We are very very Thankful!Yay,Still in shock…Looking forward to being at TAMU
Has everyone that received early acceptance accepted their admission to TAMU prior to the offer letter. Also does anyone know if/when they will send non - early acceptance letters or rejection letters?
In regard to his interview at the end of February, do you mind sharing the dates. I was curious as to when the interview process at the first round will be over.
My son is a Brown scholar and although he isn’t ended I wanted to share one other opportunity for brown scholars. Last summer he did the internship at the Methodist Research Institute that Mrs. Brown has a part in. It was an amazing opportunity for my son! He learned so much, made great connections and it is an eye catcher on his resume, opening doors for him that would have been hard otherwise.
What a wonderful opportunity to choose from both Brown and Brockman. Our son missed the National Merit Cutoff for Texas and the automatic $48.000 to A&M by 1 point. Literally 1 reading question. Math is his strongpoint LOL…Had we lived in 40 other states. He would have made it.
