@AggieDadHopeful, We finally chose Brown. It is really a wonderful and hard choice. Thank you all for info.
@my3cents Congratulations! What a wonderful situation to be in. Your son must be a special kid indeed.
@mycents Congratulations on the decision. We are all happy you chose what is best for your child. We also appreciate knowing there is one more Brockman Scholaship on the table - LOL. Enjoy this time with your child.!
Any updates? I wonder if next week is the last of the first interviews?
The Brockman Foundation Scholarship website says: Invitations to the first round of interviews will be sent during December 2019, and January and February 2020. So I am assuming that applicants can still get invited until the end of February to interview. We are hoping to get that invitation, but are keenly aware how competitive it is. Happy for those who have heard back though.
I keep checking back for news. I know some have opted out of Brockman for a Brown offer, and I am happy for them! Both sound like great opportunities. Who is still waiting to hear from Brockman? I am hoping we can all meet up in March!
My son is still waiting, though he never really got too excited about this as a possibility. He thought it was quite a reach from the get-go. I took him to interview in Houston from PA 3 weeks ago, but it’s been radio silence since then. He thought his interview with the Foundation Board Members went well, but they did question and ask him to explain the few “B’s” on his HS transcript. That didn’t exactly give him a great feeling about “making the cut”. Only time will tell…
@PAAggie204 I would say that a few B’s aren’t the end of the world. While there were kids at our interview who had straight A’s and others who were likely to be valedictorians in our group, it seems that, while not a detractor, isn’t all they are looking for.
My son does not have all A’s nor is he eligible for valedictorian.
I think it’s most amazing that he felt good coming out of the interview. I’m rooting for him and await hearing his good news soon!

Have you all had interviews yet? Just checking on everyone!

any updates?
@dalajosa
good luck with the interview next week!
Just checking in on everyone!
My daughter had her interview during the first week of February in Houston. I keep checking here , too. I know it is silly, but I can’t seem to help it the last couple of days. We talked to the TAMU Foundation representative for quite a while prior to the interview. Here are some answers to questions we asked that others may find helpful. Approximately 600 applications are reviewed. Of those, 250 get the first interview. Of those, approximately 100 get invited to College Station. Fifty of those students will be awarded the scholarships. So, if your kid was interviewed, there is approximately a 1 in 5 chance at getting the scholarship. We asked where they were in the interview process and she said that there were three rounds of interviews and we were in round two. I got the impression that where you lived determined what round of interviews you were placed in. She said the last round would be the next week. On here, though, it seems like they continue to interview more students after that round.
After the interview, there was a person who walked us out and thanked us for coming and asked if we had any questions. We asked her would we be notified either way or just if my daughter was invited to College Station. She said we would be notified either way. We asked when they would be notifying people and she said let me check. She left, came back and said, “sooner rather than later.” We all just smiled because clearly she was not answering that question!
If we are fortunate enough to make the College Station cut, would love to meet up with other parents, too.
I wanted to chime in and note that Brockman recently changed its FAQ page. It now appears that they will be making selections after just the initial interview, and the College Station weekend has been changed to a “Welcome Event” for those who have received and accepted the scholarship. We are anxiously waiting news as well!
@AeroEngMom Thanks for checking in! I interviewed a few weeks ago but have yet to hear back, sadly… though I’m still crossing my fingers, I’ve progressed in some other scholarships, so I hope it works out either way. Congrats to those accepted so far and best of luck to the rest of us all waiting!
Wow! That’s a pretty significant change. I would guess that is a longer process than picking finalists. Thanks for the information. Good luck!
@AeroEngMom , no news yet. Anxious, but hopeful! You said you knew some had declined the Brockman; any idea how many Early Acceptances have been offered?
@Tootiredtoday , exactly what day did your daughter interview? February 1? I haven’t heard of anyone interviewing since that weekend.
I thought my daughter interviewed the first week of Feb, but I looked at the email and it looks like she interviewed January 30th. I believe there was another week of interviews the following week, though. At least that is what the TAMU foundation representative told us.
That’s what we saw too. Awaiting details about Welcome event
@AggieDadhopeful wishing you luck. Hope you guys make it
@AeroEngMom, our son had his 1st round interview the first day, Jan 16th. He said it was fun and went as well has he could have hoped. Unfortunately, he was not one of the lucky ones to be offered an early offer. We are praying for a 2nd round interview or to hear something soon about a possible offer. We were told by one of the representatives “thousands applied, 250 would interview at round 1, and 100 would be invited to College Station to interview for round 2.” I was surprised to read on this thread about early offers and it looked like they extended 1st round interviews until the last week of February because we were under the impression we would hear the 2nd or 3rd week of February about round 2. However, since this is just the third year of the Brockman, it is totally understandable that the selection process evolves/changes. All of the applicants seem like stellar kids and all seem worthy. We’d be happy if they split the dollar amount by half for each student and offered twice the number. LOL. Seems like a wonderful group of kids for any student to have as friends their first year at A&M.
Did everybody see that phase two of housing application opened yesterday? At the interview process the TAMU Foundation rep asked each person if they had applied for housing. She said if we had not, we needed to do it ASAP. Of the ten applicants we met, we were the only one that had not applied. Phase 2 is picking preferences, so I think the earlier the better.
@AggieDadHopeful, I counted 6 on this forum who were offered and accepted and 3 on the Facebook page that may be in addition to the ones on here or may overlap.
I know that My3Cents had a child who received an offer and chose to go with Brown. I also know a child who is in our district who also interviewed with Brockman and Brown, received an offer from both and went back into the pool for Brockman because the student was waiting to hear from another college and would hear only after the Brockman deadline.
But the short answer is that I know of 6-9 who received an offer and accepted. I think at least one was also on here as well.
