So i accidentally chose august 2024 as my graduation month rather than june 2024. im. Gap year student so did some activities during the summer. What should i do know … have i been cooked?
It’s that time of year . . . for IDOC. Got it this week. Research here and on Reddit show very divergent views on if this is relevent. Anyone else get it?
Relevant to financial aid? Of course. Relevant to admissions? No. Brown is need blind and admissions and financial aid offices are totally separate.
There are differing opinions about Brown specifically and its use of IDOC, if you give Reddit a search. Many Brown students concur that IDOC requests are sometimes, but always, a tell.
I’ll pass on getting reliable info on Reddit. Of course some Brown students got IDOC requests and were admitted. I’m guessing it’s a similar percentage to the percentage of admitted students. Again, an IDOC request is not an indicator of admission. The IDOC request comes shortly after you complete your CSS. But you can choose to believe the Reddit crowd if you wish.
Brown has a unique approach to IDOC compared to most schools, and it is indeed often (although not always) a “tell” if you get the request followed by seeing them uploaded to the portal. Yes, there are outliers here and there (usually waitlist and deferral), but my son is a junior there, and after asking his friends, a huge number of kids concurred with what I’ve described here, both based on their own experiences and on friends back home who did not get in. As the person above suggested, you can also find evidence of this phenomenon discussed in past years’ posts both here on CC and in Reddit. (This is all of course only true if you applied for financial aid.) Good luck to everyone!
Ahhhh thanks very much for taking the time to respond! We have a niece at Brown who said something really similar. Now we just have to wait and see
Does anyone know when Brown will be releasing ED decisions? Thanks!
December 13th at 3pm EST
Thanks!

Research Experience:
AP Capstone Research Project (11th Grade): Conducted a year-long independent research study titled “The Effect of Norepinephrine Concentration on the Replication and Antiseptic Resistance of E. coli K12.” Currently Seeking publication in the Journal of Student Research.
Focus: Investigated how norepinephrine, a stress hormone, affects bacterial growth rates and resistance mechanisms when exposed to antiseptics.
Methodology:
Cultured E. coli K12 under controlled conditions with varying norepinephrine concentrations.
Monitored replication rates and antiseptic resistance using optical density measurements and agar diffusion tests.
Analyzed data to identify trends linking stress-related hormonal levels to bacterial adaptability.
Results: Demonstrated a measurable increase in replication rate and antiseptic resistance at higher norepinephrine concentrations, suggesting potential implications for infection management in stress-induced environments.
Recognition: Presented findings at school’s research symposium and earned an AP Capstone Diploma upon project completion.
Extracurricular Activities:
Orthopedic Surgery Shadowing (172 hours): Worked with an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon, observed surgeries, and assisted with patient care.

Brown admissions is need blind.
Not the issue. Admissions passes on files to the financial aid office after they have chosen who to accept. (They need to get financial packages in motion for when the acceptance are sent.) It does’t affect the admissions decision–it comes after.
That’s not how it works. I’ve mentioned this before but the financial aid office works on an aid package for everyone who applies for financial aid. They don’t wait for the admissions decisions to start working on aid. Just trying to present the facts.
DD is super excited/nervous (and so am I)! Best of luck to everyone who worked so hard and applied - looking forward to seeing decisions soon and grateful for this supportive and knowledgeable group!
Separate processes.
