@GrusMinion “ACTUAL Acceptance Rate 5.1% (3300 accepted out of 66,000+ applications)”. Your logic is incorrect. BU accepts a lot more than 3,300.
@GrusMinion, the acceptance rate is 22%, so 14000 students got in. Of that number, 3300 is expected to enroll. That 3300 enrolled number is equal to a yield of ~23%
@cawmom Yep, I gotcha. Thx.
Accepted into College of Engineering for 2018!
3.85 unweighted, 35 ACT. 800 SAT II for Chem and 760 for math II. 5 APs.
Didn’t have a whole lot of extracurriculars to show and what I had wasn’t anything fantastic so I guess they liked something about my essay? Now I’m rather curious about the admissions criteria haha
D accepted and accepted in to Kilachand Honors College - got a phone call from a human being (not robo call) while attending an accepted student reception at another university.
OOS (Alabama)
4.41 weighted GPA . 3.9 unweighted
30 ACT / 31 Superscored
18 College Hours & 3 AP Courses before senior year
Several leadership positions and more ECs than I can list.
1 / 35 in her class
No scholarship money so she will be declining. Hang tight if you are waitlisted. I suspect there are many in the same boat.
How likely is it that I get off the waitlist?..
@cwgbread it is surprising how many have been offered Kilachand without merit money. BU seems to be like Northeastern and putting more emphasis on need based grants.
Incredibly competitive season for NEU and BU. Couple of my DS friends got accepted in NEU and/or BU, and even more being rejected or WL. One of my son’s buddy has a 1520 SAT 3.77 uw 4.23 w GPA being WL by NEU and offered guarantee transfer by BU. Another buddy got a 1540 SAT 3.82 uw 4.31 w GPA being rejected by BU (w/ GT option) and accepted by NEU. I though the guarantee transfer option by BU is almost a way to test if these kids will end up attending BU, and therefore part of the yield/acceptance rate management. Couple years ago, DD applied BU and got WL and she had very high SAT/GPA combo stats. It is all a rankings game with these top schools. DS applied to BU and got waitlisted, but he has already settled his mind onto either UMich/CWRU (with aid or significant merit)or JHU (w/o aid). I told him, like I told his sister, being WL by BU is almost like a rejection. Out of the two to three thousand want to stay on the list, less than handful will eventually get in. I thought the guarantee transfer option would be attractive in some ways, but nah, he didn’t get it. Oh well.
DD got accepted with $52000 scholarship (full tuition Cohen scholarship?). Just have to pay for room and board. Very happy. 1570 SAT, 790 Math SAT, 4.0 uw GPA, 2/300 class ranking. Lots of EC, community service, etc.
I got accepted to college of communication! I am an international student studying in nyc and I went to four different high schools in three different countries(korea, nz, usa). I didn’t apply for any scholarships and was not eligible for any type of financial aid so the $70,000 every year is kind of overwhelming… lol
Anyways,
My essays were unique and strong I’d say;
GPA: 97 unweighted
SAT: 1350(math 750 english 600)
Rank: 5/104
4 APs(but all in senior year)
Definitely good recommendation letters
A lot of ECs but wasn’t in any leadership position nor involved in one thing for a long time.
My major is journalism and I’ve already got accepted to PSU, Emerson College, Stony Brook, Mizzou and many other CUNY’s. Still waitin to hear back from NYU and Cornell but I have no clue where to go!
DS Accepted CoE, Kilachand honors, no merit. SAT 1560, ACT 35, 4.0 uw, 4.7 w GPA, salutatorian. Don’t qualify for need based aid, so merit is all we can hope for. NEU honors with 28K + global experience stipend + attractive honors housing a better deal when choosing between the two. BU is out for us.
Hi guys, I was accepted into the College of Engineering for Mechanical Engineering. Just curious, but do any of you know the acceptance rate of BU’s CoE? Thanks!
DD accepted into Engineering. Only 5000 in a grant and 5500 student loan no other merit so BU is out for us.
Stats: 34 ACT, 3rd in class (of 250), 3.95 uw GPA 4.65 w, 8 AP classes, very involved in music program, captain of Tennis varsity team, etc.
RPI 29K Scholarship, WPI Presidential Scholarship $31,000 for each academic year of your undergraduate program. Umass Dartmouth accepted and 15 k a year merit. DD accepted into Chemical / Biomedical Engineering and Northeastern scholarships 27 k a year merit and Honors collage. All Still expensive for us though she only qualifies for 5500 loan …
Just got back from accepted student day at Northeastern we all had a very positive experience. I have to admit the Co-op program really impressed us even though we thought it was a waste of time before visiting. Waiting to visit WPI and RPI before we make our final decision. I have to say the zero merit and no honors college at Umass Amherst really soured it for her. We most definitely wont be bothering any more with Boston University it’s just too much. I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. Good luck to all.
It’s interesting how merit / honors is all over the place with these schools with the same kid … So crazy.
I got accepted into Questrom Business school… no merit scholarship though
Stats:
SAT -1510
SAT 2 MATH - 800
GPA- 4.0
Pretty good ECs, Good Recommendations, and an awesome essay…
Is there an accepted students facebook page or something??
Accepted into CAS. No merit scholarship
- 1430 SAT
- 34 ACT
- 4.00 unweighted GPA (my school doesn't do weighted GPA)
- 9 APs plus multiple honors classes
- Dual enrollment classes at Lafayette and Lehigh
- Heavily involved in extracurriculars (specifically student gov, key club, german club, soccer, track)
- Really good letters of rec
- Tons of volunteer hours
- Good essays
Accepted CAS and Kilachand Honors!
Is there any hope of getting off the waitlist?
@jj1999 i would say yes. inevitably some students will decline because of financial reasons or acceptance to a university they’d rather attend
ACCEPTED CAS W/TRUSTEE!
Stats:
1500 SAT (720 W, 740 M, 7-8-8 essay)
GPA 4.0 unweighted, 4.81 weighted (honestly not sure how BU weights classes for admission though)
Class Rank: 7 out of 650
Really, really strong extracurriculars (student body president, student member on board of education, ran a district-wide coin drive and raised $20,000 for Make-A-Wish, Model United Nations president, etc.)
I just looked at my essays again and they were actually quite good.
Full IB Diploma. No AP tests though.
I’m assuming my letters of rec were pretty good lol
Major: International Relations (I’m gonna try to get into the Dual Degree program for Musical Composition as well)
Was not expecting to even be considered for Trustee but here I am! I applied Regular Decision as well so I thought my chances were virtually nothing (hearing that RD applicants had a 3.5% acceptance rate is also quite shocking). I’m from California, and BU is the only school from the east coast I applied to, so I’m super excited!
@maralyn99 That is not how the waitlist works.
