BU RD Class of 2022

Nvm, I just found out that if you don’t apply as a freshman you can’t get in. However, I’m still curious in knowing what made the honors college appealing for those that applied.

Can I appeal for Merit-based scholarship???

@“Pakshal Mehta” No → https://www.bu.edu/finaid/apply/special-circumstances/reconsideration/
Can I request reconsideration for a merit award decision?
Merit-based scholarship recipients are selected by the Board of Admissions and selection decisions are final. Scholarship terms and conditions, including award amounts, are pre-established. If you were not selected for a merit award or were selected and believe you need additional financial assistance, we encourage you to explore need-based financial aid and credit-based loans.

Which freshman housing places are usually the best? Out of the following options: Warren towers, west campus, the towers, kilachand hall, baystate road, or 575 commonwealth avenue?

.

@nyulover29 I would choose BU over northeastern any day. The BU campus is amazing and academics at BU are far superior to that of northeastern.

@sagra im pretty sure that for freshmen only the warren towers and west is available… the others are only for upperclass ones

@Heisenberg1700 Have you actually visited the BU “campus”?

@“Pakshal Mehta” oh ok, do you which one of these two is better?

Warren is mid-campus, which is super convenient depending on which college you’re in. It’s busy. West is remote but the three towers make for a unified experience. West is convenient if you’re in CGS.

@nyulover29 So I will never know if I got into Northeastern but I did apply to both BU and NEU (I applied ED to BU and got in so that’s where I’ll be for the next four  and since I wanted to apply ED to a school I had to decide between the both of them. Of course, everything I say is in my opinion and my feel of both of the campuses. Firstly, I actually did like BU’s campus over NEU’s like @Heisenberg1700 . Originally, I wanted more grass on my college campus like Northeastern has but I ended up having a tough time figuring out where to go around Northeastern and while I do love the grass it oddly enough seemed more spread out to me. That is only the FEELING I got though, BU absolutely has a more spread out campus, but at least East/Central campus is all in one clutter and I’ve found it really easy to get to places in that area. Truth be told I’ve never visited West Campus (but will be tomorrow!!) because I will be studying International Relations and the College of Arts and Sciences and the Pardee School for Global Studies are in East/Central so 90% of my classes will be there. I particularly fell in love with Bay State Road, where Pardee is. To me it is incredibly picturesque and has a very classic but beautiful city feel. This is where the brownstones are. I also love the BU beach (my little spot of grass!). Another reason why I chose BU over Northeastern is school spirit and being more connected to the campus. While co-ops at NEU are an incredible opportunity, that also means a lot of people come and go from campus when they go to different co-ops around the country/globe. I have heard this gives Northeastern a little less school spirit and less of a traditional college experience. Personally, I really want to be connected to campus and have a bit more of that traditional experience (even if BU’s campus isn’t traditional). Lastly, this is VERY much opinionated but I got more of a STEM/techy feel from NEU and more of an artsier one from BU. I am not a science/math girl so I knew I wouldn’t be quite as happy at a more techy school so that was another reason why I chose BU. But, honestly you couldn’t go wrong with either. Northeastern was my second choice for a reason, and both schools are FANTASTIC in academics and you could have a great experience at both. It really is more about fit and I highly recommend touring both (cough cough BU has open houses!! I will be going to one of them tomorrow!!! :-)) and seeing where you feel most comfortable and which is a better fit for you. Best of luck in making your decision!!!

What are your intended majors, everyone?

What housing residences are the best for freshmen?

@sagra I’m in Kilachand so I’ll be staying in the Kilachand dorms for the first year. I visited and thought that the dorms are pretty nice. I’m not sure how the other dorms are on campus though

I’ve all but committed to LMU so there will hopefully be a spot opening in CFA for someone who will benefit from it more than me. Thank you all for the support! I really do love what I’ve seen of BU but in the end I think LMU is a better match for me.

Hey all! I committed to BU. Anyone know what the requirement is for second semester senior grades lol

@sagra there are multiple housing options for Freshman. The most popular are West and Warren. West is for the sociable and if you’re looking to make new friends instantly. Warren is a place where you’ll still make friends, but it’s not known for it like West is. Also, if you’re in CAS Warren is the best option.

The other options are 575 CommonWealth Ave (Hojo), The Towers, Kilachand (honors housing), and Baystate brownstones. The first two are terrible (so don’t apply for those), and Baystate is for all years but hard for freshman to get into.
