Thank you! Yes I am a freshman and no word from the portal just yet. Guess i’ll have to wait and see
The waitlist email days you will be notified no later than May 15th. Does anyone know if this really means ON May 15 or is more like “rolling” notification? Anyone have actual experience with SLO’s waitlist timing from past years?
My son just found out tonight that he was waitlisted for aerospace engineering.
Has anyone heard from civil engineering yet? It seems that every other engineering major has been notified beside civil
I’m searching for the same info. Gotta imagine it is rolling up to 5/15. Like you I am hoping for a miracle but 2017 common Data set shows 3100 on wait list and 15 being accepted. See C 2. Depressing…

@ecurb Last year they overadmitted 800+ freshman. They are being very cautious this year and I suspect will accept more off the waitlist this year, more like in 2016.
@nontent Exactly my sentiments. You should have been accepted right away, with a merit scholarship. Your stats put you well above the top quarter at SLO, and in the top 1% nationally, even within aerospace engineering.
@norcalgirl22 Would you mind listing your stats? I want to know what scores are getting waitlisted in animal science
Like everyone one else on the waitlist I’m curious about timing for final decisions. They indicate May 15. If they don’t notify by May 1 it’s not really an option for most people. I know our other acceptances are expecting a yes or no by May 1.
@nervouspop If your kid fell into the trap of falling in love with this school, you SIR to another school and keep them on Cal Poly’s waitlist. The hope is they’ll research and get excited about the new place, but if they come off the waitlist you can choose to withdraw your first SIR. You end up forfeiting some $, but most would happily do that if kid’s dream school becomes available.
I wonder how much you miss out on housing-wise at SLO, if you do not get admitted until May 15. I get that the SIR deposit at the other college will be forfeited, but it seems like there might be other complications if you wait that long.
@chicalmom Most high stats California kids are used to the idea of forced triples from all the UC housing tours. It really highlights the issue of there just not being enough resources for all the great students who want to attend California colleges. Triples aren’t ideal, but kids are resilient. With the huge new dorm, they’ll be enough space for newly admitted freshman, even if they get stuck in a triple.
@nervouspop You have to go ahead and turn in your SIR to another school by May 1st. If you get off the waitlist at Cal Poly you will be permitted to rescind your SIR at the other school if you choose to go to Cal Poly.
What’s SIR?
@transferjess Statement of Intent to Register. For most schools it’s just the accept button on the computer which states that you intend to register to that school.
Got it, thank you @CentralCoaster !
At Cal Poly, housing assignments are not viewable until Aug 6 so it seems like there is time for accepted waitlist students to get in the mix. Agree that doubles converted to triples is common, at least in my experience. A few years ago, I know someone who SIR’d to Chico and around the 4th of July was accepted off SDSU waitlist. He ended up accepting the SDSU spot and had no problems with housing.
SAT : 1410
CP GPA: 3.90
Major: Software engineering
No decision yet, is it safe to say I got denied?
I got accepted.

@CopperlineX2 and @svlab112 Thank you! Makes me feel a lot better. My D is soooo excited about dorm life. Back in the dark ages, when I attended Scripps College, I was in a triple as a freshman. One roommate asked to move out, and the other had to leave school unexpectedly. By February I had the entire triple to myself!
