Cal Poly Class of 2022 Thread

No that is not true. We know someone with my son with lower grades and made it…go figure

Clarification on my earlier question about waitlist acceptances - I’m wondeting how many waitlisted students actually get accepted (not what their stats are). Anyone know? I’m sure it fluctuates every year (especially this year), but just curious if anyone knows.

@rocknix, you are misreading what I’m saying. I’m not saying anyone deserves anything, nor am I saying Cal Poly is better than any other school. I’m saying this…too many students applied to too few spots. Do you have a fix for that? When you have 130 or so spots and over 3000 apply…this is where you end up…LOTS of fully qualified students getting passed over. Why? Because for WHATEVER REASON, Cal Poly is seen as a highly desirable option. This isn’t my opinion (although it is). It’s what the numbers say. For SOME MAJORS, Cal Poly is HIGHLY selective. Don’t read ANYTHING more into what I typed than that. It’s all about perspective.

@seaotterj87 Look at the Final Status thread. There has been some acceptances for psychology.

@momamet that is exactly what the post I linked gave.

of applicants offered Waitlist vs # of applicants accepted off Waitlist::

2017: 3168 offered waitlist and 15 accepted
2016: 1011 offered waitlist and 675 accepted
2015: 1888 offered waitlist and 134 accepted
2014: 1598 offered waitlist and 67 accepted

Hopefully this year will be like 2016 where many more students were accepted off the waitlist.

Thanks MelloG

@bugabug what are your daughters ECs like? I also applied for english and my stats are sort of close to hers but i haven’t received any acceptance or waitlist offer

Hopefully this will give people an idea how selective each major can be. Congratulations to all you seniors, your journey is just beginning regardless of where you end up and your success is what you make of it

@nontent, You have great stats and more than that, a great background that will serve you well in college and life.

Cal Poly seems to use an MCA score to select admits. (See the MCA thread to learn more.) To calculate the MCA your GPA component (4.1) would contribute 2196 points out of 2250 possible. Your SAT score would contribute 1598 out of 1650 possible points. Your extra math classes would add 500 MCA points and the extra language would give you another 100 points. But you would need more science, english and/or visual arts classes to get the additional 150 points. So I calculate 600 out of 750 max possible points on class rigor. Finally for ECs, there is a maximum of 350 points. The maximum hours would give you 250 out of 350 points. To get the extra 100 points you would need to have checked off leadership role (60 points) and/or major related (50 points). So I calculate an MCA score of 4644 points, with a possibility to get as high as 4744 with the leadership and major related points. If I made any incorrect assumptions then please correct them.

Daughter just waitlisted for Biomedical Engineering. 4.0 UW/4.3 W, 1460 SAT, NMF, etc… Congratulations to everyone who got in!

Son recieved waitlist notification today.

@nontent

This does seem odd to me if your unweighted is 3.95 and you have max rigor. If your calculated application GPA is 4.1, your Cal Poly SLO GPA (even with all As) is lower. The calculated GPA on the CSU application only includes 10-11th grade. CP SLO will recalculate to include any 7th-9th grades entered on the application.

You have great stats, and I am sure you will have some good options.

@stresseddaddy that looks exactly right; I just went to the “how to calculate MCA” thread and got 4704 because I have had a leadership position. The maximum possible (academic) points appears to be 4850. Being a vet, or from a service area, etc. adds like 700 points each though, which I am not. I guess the cutoff was higher than that for aerospace engineering this year. WOW!

@stresseddaddy actually, sorry, that was wrong – I just realized I had 3 extra years of physical science (I thought the requirement was 4, not 1). So I wouldn’t have gotten 4704, I would have gotten an extra 150 points from having the extra sciences courses, resulting in a 4854.

Guys, lets just accept the truth, acceptance came out, waitlist came out, if your portal still stay to be determined, just accept the harsh reality. I am pretty sure there are plenty of other good universities out there, SLO might be your top choice but it will definitely not be your only choice. GL to everyone who got accepted and wait-listed(?)!

@MelloG, source, please. Thank you.

@sbjdorlo I was quoting @Gumbymom, who was citing Common Data Set data found here https://ir.calpoly.edu/content/publications_reports/cds/index

Look for section C2 in each year to find wait list info

Thanks, @MelloG.

Does anyone know when waitlisted people will hear back? Or is it completely random? I was waitlisted today for Econ.
