My Daughter was accepted & we just received scholarship/ grant & Financial aid package today… I’m out of state… & Cal poly gave us a total of $ 1,000 , that’s it … nothing else… $35,000 plus for out of state and that’s not counting travel, books and miscellaneous fees etc… just tuition, room and board 35,500+ . thanks Cal Poly for the $ 1,000!! WOW so generous!!. They said we could only afford 25,000 so Basically said you cant afford this, but just take out a Loan for 29,000 and have your Daughter take out 5,500 for rest. WOW what a great grant /aid and scholarship package.
. Thank god they gave me that $1000 , i would have had to take out loan for 30,000 …LOL
I guess that is one way to keep enrollment down and prevent the overcrowded problem they have right now with housing and getting into classes etc…
goodluck…
@padad23 None of the CSU’s fund out of state students.
oh that makes sense…got it!
all clear now… if that is actually true… then they should post that clearly maybe put out an official … Message to ALL OUT of State Students filling out these financial aid forms, we don’t actually use them, so it is a waist of your time, Cal Poly does not fund out of state student… your cost is $35,500 - 1,000…
Is that what your saying?
sorry, waste of time… i cant type , hate when it auto corrects wrong .
@padad23 It is really important if financial aid is critical for a student that they as well as their parents research costs of college before applying. Usually, it is pretty clear through the Net Price Calculator what the cost of attendance will be. Cal Poly (and most CSU’s or UC’s) give very little in the ways of scholarships and grants to OOS students and they are very clear about that. They are state schools and their primary goal is to educate the students from their state at a reasonable cost. Private schools will often give a lot of scholarships or grants based on need or merit and that also usually shows on the net price calculator to give you a general idea. Of course, heavily endowed schools give the best FA packages. Also, the FAFSA form determines your EFC not the college. The college just distributes the Federal loans and grants if eligible and includes any of their own funding if the student qualifies.
If I applied for comp sci but still have “No determination” in my portal, i’m most likely getting rejected, right? I’m OOS but my friend who applied for comp engineering and also goes to my school was accepted in early march w/ scholarship.
I’m instate and applied for statistics but still have no determination at this point, am I getting rejected?
Where do you guys see that there’s “no determination”? When I click on application status there’s no such message, only a bar with all of my info (Term, major, application date, credential name, etc.)
@jcraft18 underneath that bar should be a message with your status - if there’s nothing there I would call.
didn’t someone start a waitlist thread? I can’t seem to find it. Does anyone here know if we should expect to see some movement in the waitlists when the bulk of UC decisions go out? I know Davis is out but think that might be the only one so far.
@prdmam The waitlist thread is here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cal-poly-san-luis-obispo/2061764-wait-listed-at-cal-poly.html#latest
