Cal Poly Class of 2022 Thread

Congratulations to those students who have been accepted to Cal Poly. I’d strongly encourage parents of admitted students to join the Cal Poly SLO Mustang Parents facebook page. Lots of useful information from current parents about Cal Poly, upcoming deadlines, etc.

I’m deciding between Cal Poly SLO and SDSU as a business major. Anyone have any advice?

@srose2018

First of all, congratulations on getting accepted to both!

Both have highly regarded business programs and if you strive to succeed, it might not matter as much in terms of you acquiring the degree and a solid job after college.

First, you have to ask yourself if you see your self in a city, like SD or living in a college town like SLO. Both have their pros & cons.

If you’re worried about job/internship opportunities, you shouldn’t worry too much as they are typically offered in the summer. That being said, another factor to consider is where you see yourself working. In SD, as SDSU is a direct feeder to the city’s workforce. Or SLO, which is heavily recruited by firms from the Bay Area, LA, and Orange County.

For me, I’ve asked this question as well and I usually get the answer of Cal Poly’s business program being holistically better than the rest of the CSU’s, specifically for their philosophy of “Learn by doing” so it is a lot more hands on. If you’re going into Accounting I’d say Cal Poly is the way to go.

But at the end of the day, it’s which school is the best fit for you. So if you haven’t already, really try visiting both schools!

Has anyone been accepted from waitlist?

did they already sent out every decision?

@luvpups221 I think pretty much everyone has heard yes, no or the dreaded waitlist…

Still waiting on decisions for applicants with international school transcripts.
Expected by April 1st but last year they only came out with decisions for any US Citizens in this situation at the end of April.

Thanks @goolia66.
They did say they were hoping to do better this year.
I think they wait to see how many admit spots are rejected after all UC Campuses come out with decisions.
They have such a small number of international admissions…
It’s a shame we come back to California after living abroad and although I should be In-State for admission I am considered International???!!

Did you get any responses on the waitlist question? My daughter is waitlisted… Do they notify everyone at once or trickle it out? Would be great to not have to wait until May 15.

Is biochemistry good at cal poly slo?

I was accepted on March 2nd Business Major
33 ACT (just math and english), 4.05 GPA.
Rejected from UCSB

@calploydad and @redwoodcity My D. is on waitlist too for Business Admin and I wouldn’t expect any new info from CalPoly until after May 1 and perhaps late in month or into June. Luckily we have great options with multiple UCs and one OOS but will let her chew on her choices over the next 2-3 weeks and then decide if to remain on SLO Waitlist (no pun intended) or remove her name to shorten the list. Good luck and hopefully have you have other options to fall in love with.

Congrats to those who have been accepted to Cal Poly SLO! I would highly encourage parents of accepted students to join the Cal Poly SLO Mustang Parents facebook page. There’s a ton of useful information, reminders about upcoming deadlines, and general Q&A from experienced Cal Poly Parents.

@happywaffles The $35 sign-up for open house gives you a parking pass. If you’re admitted, you would want to go to admitted students day on Friday (and possibly go to Farmer’s market from 6-9 pm on Thursday night, if you’re around). Friday has welcomes from the departments, tours, department show and tell, and the really fun Friday Nite Invite (dj, games, and a lot of fun). Saturday is more for the general public, with a rodeo, tractor pull, exhibits. There is no housing or meals included with open house (other than possibly a few refreshments at the parent coffee house session on Friday night). You’d need to make your own hotel reservations and purchase food on or off campus as needed. If you haven’t already, you should definitely consider joining the Cal Poly SLO Mustang Parents facebook page – admitted students are allowed to join and there’s a lot of useful info.

I got admitted on Mar 22! But it says conditional admission so it freaked me out a bit. This whole process is just so confusing and I’m surprised that I got in.

International applicant (study in North Carolina)
Civil Engineering major
1450 SAT
4.23 CSU Gpa
4.029 GPA (no rank)
Decent amount of ECs related to majors (Scioly, Robotics, math club)

I don’t know if I should go to Open House or not since my school doesn’t allow me to have absences any more (I have 10days/year)

@annavy2000 Congrats! All acceptances are conditional, so that’s noting to,stress about. You need to maintain at least a 3.0 gpa in your classes through the end of the year and send in your transcripts promptly st the end of the year. Keep an eye on the To Do list in your portal. And the housing signups open on March 27.
