I heard that in order to change majors at cal poly you had to be eligible at the time you applied, so how do you know if you are eligible?
Accepted to aerospace with 1390 SAT (760 math) and 28 ACT (30 math). Weighted GPA is 4.23, unweighted is 3.75. Class rank is 25/580.
Hope this helps anyone.
Also, pros/cons of SLO vs. Pomona for aerospace?
@danzy303: SLO does publish average GPA and test scores for each college which can give you a ballpark on where you stand as a Freshman applicant so if you are at the average or above, then you could have gotten into your proposed major. What is your MCA score? You can check out this thread for accepted students and their posted MCA scores:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cal-poly-san-luis-obispo/1958827-fall-2017-final-status.html
You can also look at the projections for your proposed major change here: https://content-calpoly-edu.s3.amazonaws.com/ir/1/images/2018-2019%20Enrollment%20Targets%20and%20Projections.pdf
If you post your current major, proposed major and stats, I am sure CC posters can help you.
@Gumbymom I got in for Environmental Science and I think my MCA score is around 4500. I just want to know what other departments I would be eligible for.
Hi guys I want to ask a quick question, can I transfer from cal poly slo to UCs like UCSD UCSB UCD after 2 years? A lot of people said that Cal states can not transfer to UCs ,is that true?
Hey! I was wondering, if there is still anyone who hasn’t gotten a decision back yet… Or am i one of a kind haha
@danzy303: What major are you interested in switching into?
@Gumbymom I was thinking of possibly environmental design or business admin.
@danzy303: since SLO does not publish their MCA cutoffs, all I can do is refer you to the average stats for each college and look through the final status/ decision thread to see how you compare. If you are within range, contact admissions directly to see if they can give you an idea of your chances of switching majors. They will have a better idea if you would meet the criteria.
hey can anyone kinda sum up the dorms for me? I was looking at them on the cal poly housing website but honestly I’m still confused on the differences. Which one is the “best” in your opinion and why?
You can’t select a dorm or building, you select up to 5 learning communities. Cal Poly will determine where each learning community will be housed.
Sorry, should have clarified that my post is if you are going to be a freshman this fall. I don’t know your choices if you’re a continuing student.
@Mom2BoysCA no I’m a freshman. So basically we have no choice which dorm we get put in (like north mountain or ytt)? If so can you still give me a rundown on the differences just so I know
http://content-calpoly-edu.s3.amazonaws.com/housing/1/documents/UH%20LC%20Overview%202018.pdf
^So basically you get to pick up to 5 of your top choices from this list of living learning communities. They do not specify which community will be in which building, as they adjust this based on the demand for each one.
Question for anyone who knows: If I receive a C in my last semester this year, do I need to notify Cal Poly?? And could it result in them rescinding my decision?
I’m a senior who has already been accepted to Cal Poly and I’ve already committed.
as long as you keep above a 3.0 you are fine! just make sure to send them your final transcript after the year is over. I’m committed too!
@happywaffles Correct, no choice in the dorm buildings for freshman. I don’t know firsthand much about the current dorm buildings, but here’s a link to the descriptions on Cal Poly’s website: http://www.housing.calpoly.edu/student-housing/residence-halls-and-apartments
does anyone have insight from years past regarding housing for students who are lucky enough to get in off the wait list later in May? Seems like it will be all filled by then…
Have merit scholarships been awarded to anyone accepted yet?
@prdmam all freshmen are guaranteed and required to live on campus, so they will get housing, but it will most likely not be their first choice.
