@JMCannon Try going to the Student Center, there should be an Accept/Decline link right below the Application Status link
@futureucstudent Thank you! That is how I accepted earlier, but I never had to do an SIR or a deposit when I did that. Should have gotten an email or something?
@JMCannon You should get an email for committing and there is no deposit to SIR. However there is a deposit when you register for housing which you should do asap.
I don’t know if my daughter got an email confirmation, but her application status changed to something like “you are now cleared to register blah blah”
Son accepted off waitlist today for computer science. They’re giving him until May 10th to decide.
Son accepted off waitlist for Mechanical Engineering at 2:30 pm Monday.
My son was also accepted of wait list for CS. Question - how far behind are the students getting accepted now as far as housing, etc. Trying to decide between CO School of Mines which we have visited multiple times and Cal Poly which we have visited once.
@nervouspop cal poly guarantees housing for first year students. However, the later you apply, it becomes less likely that you will be housed based on your #1 preferences you state in the housing app.
@CopperlineX2 , my son declined his computer science acceptance yesterday. Coincidence? :0
@nervouspop Our daughter committed two weeks ago, but she thought she needed to line up her roommate before applying for housing, and did not find out about registering for orientation until late last week. Anyway, there are several 2-day orientations and as of this past Sat, all or possibly all but one had several spaces available. With regard to housing, she signed up Sunday and found out that you commit to housing first, and then you can invite/accept roommates. As mentioned, housing is guaranteed, and mutually agreed roommate requests are honored, but the community might not be the first choice. Also, housing requires a $1,500 early payment so some may be holding off until the deadline for that reason too. I do not think your son would be behind if he accepts Cal Poly.
Don’t worry about getting housing for Cal Poly (it’s guaranteed for Freshmen like people have said).
Worry about getting hotel rooms for the orientation, move-in, and family weekend. Seriously. Get your dates lined up and book rooms now! We learned the hard way last year with my oldest child. San Luis Obispo has a lot of hotels, but the price and quality vary widely.
If you have flexibility on your dates for orientation in the Summer, try checking the hotel prices first. Rates fluctuate quite a bit during that time of year. There can be a $50 to $100 difference at the same hotel within a couple of days. Try to be there for a Thursday Night Market if you can. It really shows off the town and it is just fun to go to.
For Move-in and Family Weekend, book early or try booking rooms in Pismo Beach, Morro Bay, or Arroyo Grande. They are all short drives from SLO (15-20 minutes), but sometimes offer better rates and beach views.
@BGA808 Is your son from in-state? Did the status change on his portal? How did he find out?
@calpolyalum out of state. Yes he found out from an email and his status also changed on his portal. It said Congratulations…
How many people do you guys think are onthe waitlsit this year? 1500? 2000? 3000?
Not sure, but probably far more than previous years, considering how they over enrolled last year so they should be trying to get more control over their yield.
Has anyone heard back today?
Can it be confirmed or denied that waitlist acceptances are over? I am on the waitlist for business and because so many others have gotten off but I haven’t heard back yet I’m losing hope.
I called admissions yesterday and she clarified that ALOT of positive decisions would be released this week.
Thank you for replying. Seems promising.
Can someone confirm what droosif said or when decisions will be released? I called earlier and the admissions lady basically said “sorry, we can’t share any info”
