Cal Poly Class of 2022 Thread

I hear 'ya. It’s a big moment for you. Best wishes. Let us know what happens!

^^So are you saying your MCA GPA is different than that number and is instead calculated from 8th- 11th grade if you put in math or language for middle school?

I think SLO’s computer accepts grade from highest level math & foreign language from 9th grade, knowing any extras are the middle school listings

Yes.
My daughter has the unusual circumstance where she has all As in high school, but got a B+ in Algebra in 7th grade one semester and that 7th grade B is included in her GPA as part of her MCA score. But she is above the 4.2 ceiling even with the B, so there is no harm, no foul.

LOL, but maybe I’m giving them more credit than they deserve!

Applications are already submitted and decisions have already been made, stop worrying about your GPA and MCA points. It’s pointless lol

The latest news from the parent page at Cal Poly SLO is: “We heard from one of the associate deans that acceptances won’t be rolling out until early March. We had 10,000 more applications this year than last year. Sorry to add to everyone’s stress.
The trend the last few years with the higher application numbers has been acceptances being rolled out over a longer period of time. It used to be that if you didn’t hear by the end of February, that you could expect the “dear John” letter by mid March. The school now has until April 1st to extend offers of admission. We also heard that there will very likely be a wait list this year in an effort to better control numbers.”

omg

@YoGertie. That seems like third hand info. Also, SLO has had a waitlist for at least several years already.

that’s a bummer but I suppose there isn’t anything we can do but wait it out!

Seems weird that they’d release international acceptances but delay the rest

That was taken directly from one of the Administrators of the Parent Page for the college, which is the college sanctioned parent page for Cal Poly. I just thought I’d pass it along as so many are wondering when acceptances will come out. I think previously in this post it was also mentioned that Cal Poly has told others that acceptances will be later this year, and these seems to confirm it.

There also is a current proposal to increase tuition for OOS students starting this fall an extra 2k…and then an additional 2K per year until 2021 where it will be an additional 8k for incoming students (new and transfer OOS) to fund a grant for low income CA residents to increase diversity. There has been a lot of protest and discussion regarding this and that coupled with the other tuition and housing/meal increases may need to be resolved before acceptances can go out because some students need to know what their tuition costs will be to enroll. Realistically, this should have been transparent upon applying and definitely clarified upon acceptance. Frankly, I don’t think it could pass for the incoming students this fall based on this - if it passes at all.

@YoGertie. Can you post a link to the page? I don’t see anything like that on the Parent SLO Parent Facebook page. Thanks!

@OCDDad … this was taken directly from the college sanctioned parent page, posted by one of the Administrators of the page. I just thought I’d pass it along as so many are looking at when acceptances came out last year trying to figure when they will come out this year. Also, this “confirms” a prior post in this thread that mentioned that Cal Poly has said acceptances will be later this year. FWIW, my daughter’s acceptance was Feb. 16 last year.
And, yes, they have had a waitlist for several years, but from what I understand very few are ever accepted off the wait list. After last years’ “fiasco” where they over enrolled by almost 1,000 students, I think they are planning to use the wait list more heavily this year, possibly accepting fewer students and then maybe pulling more from the waitlist. They ares still trying to calculate how many to accept to get the yield they want after they did away with early decision last year.

then why did cal poly poy slo release some of their in-state and oos decisions the last week of january already? what was the point in that?

The official parent page, hosted by the Parent Council is called Cal Poly SLO Mustang Parents. It is a closed group, and you need permission to join. I will post the link, but I’m not sure what is required at this time to join. I’ve been on it for 4 years, since my oldest started.

Edited: Every time I try to post the link, my comment will not post. But if you search the words above, that should take you directly to the page.

@OCDDad
it’s called “cal poly slo mustang parents”

They always do release international and out of state ahead of instate.

Why would an extra 10,000 apps make a difference? No one is reading the apps, it’s a computer algorithm!
