Yeah, that sounds like old info. The waitlist is nothing new. Also, “The school now has until April 1st to extend offers of admission” Haven’t they done that for at least a couple of years now as well? I don’t know. I guess we’ll see.

@OCDad… that page you posted is on the Cal Poly website itself. Very inactive page. I’m talking about a facebook page. Cal Poly SLO Mustang Parents. The post I’m talking about was started by saying “keeping fingers crossed they start acceptances today instead of next week when registration starts so the system doesn’t crash like in the past when students were checking portals for acceptances while current students were trying to enroll” (paraphrased) Buried in that post is a comment from one of the moderators, which I posted word for word above.

@YoGertie As much as we don’t like the content of the message, thank you very much for taking the time to post what you’ve heard. By this time last year, we already had OOS acceptances. Sigh.

There were 65,507 applications in 2018, 58,429 in 2017 and 54,732 in 2016. 2018 had 7000 more applications than in 2017 NOT 10,000. And there were 3,697 more in 2017 than in 2016. So CalPoly is dealing with an overall increase of 3379 applicants. So their system is in shambles and applicants have to wait an extra month due to 3300 applicants when they seemed to handle 58,000 just fine?
@Carbonman: You might want add the issues with the new Cal State Apply application which could be contributing to the longer time needed to determine their admission decisions.
@Carbonman I know it’s frustrating (I’m just as anxious as anyone here), but I don’t think it’s all Cal Poly’s fault. There was mention earlier in the thread that CP got the data from CalState Apply very late, and had just started dealing with it in late January. You would think that in years past they started in December for ED, so that’s a pretty big lag. I’m willing to give that report some credence since right around that time my D received a request to clarify her graduation date (she had put June 2017 on the app rather than 2018). That said, I do think CP is starting to hurt from their insistence on keeping the rest of the CSU system at arms length and doing everything their way. It’s clear their admissions system is antiquated and involves a number of manual steps that don’t scale to the sizes they find themselves having to deal with now. Too late to help us, but hopefully this year will be the wakeup call that prods them to invest in a more modern system for handling admissions. I won’t hold my breath, though.
You have 20,000 posts? ! I was specifically responding to the comment regarding the number of applications was the issue holding things up. The numbers don’t seem to support that argument. There may be other issues-who knows. I am not in a hurry to hear. I am waiting for the UC decisions before I make my decision-so I have time. If there are other issues slowing things down then it sure didn’t affect the other CSU schools as they have all reported now. Best wishes and good luck!
