The delay really is difficult to justify. This same concern has been raised on the SDSU thread. They use only GPA and test score to create an EI. With the Nov. 30 deadline, decisions could have been out by early December. CalPoly MCA is also calculated automatically, so it is a matter of totaling the applications, estimating yield, and sending out decisions. Why the multi-month wait for students to get decisions?
@BayAreaLocal can you put the link to the sdsu thread?
I bet they’re tracking the views on this thread and adjusting their yield & acceptances real-time.
@Lauren1272 below are my daughter’s stat:
SAT: 1380
Major: Computer Engineering.
International applicant so don’t know how to convert into GPA.
Her scores have been >90 out of 100 in in all subjects (9,10 and 11 grade). Her exams for 12th is next month (Annual system).
Below are the conditional terms she got accepted

Good Luck to everyone !
Did anyone else get an acceptance email today?
I think the delay has to do with using a new application this year. There were a lot of glitches as with any new application. One glitch was that the CSUs had a hard time accessing the test scores:
UT had around 50,000
I too think it’s the test score issue that has caused the delay. Poly is not the only CSU to have a delayed release.
But San Diego State sent acceptances a while ago, and yet the same appication
I am guessing it has a lot to do with finalizing tuition for next year, especially OOS. CPSLO is looking less and less desirable.
San Diego State has only sent out honor program acceptances, regular not yet.
San Jose State nothing either.
I thought SDSU had already sent out a couple of waves of non-honors acceptances. At least that’s what I heard.
my son was accepted to SDSU back in December and invited to apply to honors.
@ksquaredmom . but I don’t see that being resolved this month. I suspect it has to do with the college board SAT disconnect and in Poly’s case housing might play into it.
@SupremeCactus: SDSU has only released some OOS and Honors acceptances in December. Some applicants are getting emails from SDSU to confirm some of their HS courses originally reported on the application. I also know some local CSULB applicants were having HS course reporting issues.
I think it is a combination of many things that is delaying the decisions.
@fibonacci65 I just can’t see committing to a school without knowing how much it costs. I suppose they have to the end of April. I guess this is a good way to address overcrowding?
@ksquaredmom I agree. But costs are not set in stone. California’s fiscal year runs July 1 to June 30 so you never know what the true fiscal health/status of any state institution is until then.
@Lauren1272 … my daughter’s stats:
GPA - 3.63 (9th - 11th Grade)
SAT - 1240
Applied for Business
As mentioned, I realize that there would have to be a miracle for my D to be accepted into Poly. Her Dad and I are both alums (me Applied Art and Design … he an Electrical Engineer).
For sh!ts and giggles … I applied eons ago, along with a portfolio of required work, an essay, and supplemental application (listing out honors, extra-curriculars, etc.), my GPA was about 2.9. In those days, a GPA of 3.3 was good, and a 3.5 was amazing. I miraculously got in by the skin of my teeth (by way of the summer program). My portfolio, essay, and student gov’t/extra curriculars got me in.
I think the delay has to do with the fact that current students are registering for Spring quarter right now and an admission release would cause a serious melt down of the computer system.
@CentralCoaster, students always register at this time. It’s never been an issue in the past, so I doubt that it is creating an issue now.
